TAUNTON – Jose Pinheiro, Sr. husband of the late Maria T. (Moitoso) Pinheiro, died unexpectedly at his Taunton home on Jan. 7, 2016. He was 82. Born in Faial, Azores, Jose was the son of the late Jose and Maria Constance Pinheiro. Educated in the Azores, he served in the Portuguese Army before moving to this area many years ago. A retired maintenance mechanic, he was employed by Royce Aluminum for over 23 years until 1991. Jose was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, lobstering and quahogging. His favorite pastime was spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Antonio Pinheiro and his wife Grace of Taunton, and Angelo Pinheiro and his wife Betsy of East Taunton; a brother, Antonio Pinheiro of Faial; a sister, Caroline Escobar of CA; seven grandchildren, Lisa Arpin, and Nicholas, Mandy, Daniel, Adam, Vanessa, and Hannah Pinheiro; two great grandchildren, Kailyn and Dillon Arpin; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Jose Pinheiro, Jr. and Manuel Pinheiro, and the brother of the late Angelo and Emilia Pinheiro, and Maria Constance Escobar. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, Jan. 13th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Leo G. Castonguay, of Taunton, died Saturday, January 9 at his residence following a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of 61 years of Lucille L. (Denis) Castonguay. He was born 83 years ago in New Bedford, the son of the late Wilfred and Arzelia (Frechette) Castonguay. He was educated in New Bedford and had been a Taunton resident since 1957. Prior to his retirement, Leo had been employed as a truck driver for George Mann Chemical Co. in Providence, R.I. for several years. He previously owned and operated the L. Castonguay Floor Covering Co., Inc. of Taunton for many years. He was a former member and officer of the Taunton Lions Club. He enjoyed singing, boating, snowmobiling, motorcycles and was an avid fan of his grandchildrens’ sporting event. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. TAUNTON – Mary Costa died at Morton Hospital and Medical Center on January 11, 2016 following a lengthy illness. She was 87. Born in Norton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Edwarda (Tenreiro) Costa. She was a lifelong Taunton resident and a 1946 graduate of Taunton High School. She retired, after 29 years, as a clerk at the First District Court in Taunton. Ms. Costa was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Church. She enjoyed walking, reading, arts & crafts and traveling. In Brighton, January 21, 2016 Karan L. Mabrouk, age 56, passed away following a brief illness in St. Elizabeth’s Hospital with her loving family at her side. Karan was born in Taunton, the daughter of Jean Sumstead of Taunton and the late Chester Sumstead. Karan had resided in Fall River the past few years and was formerly of Taunton. She was employed at Golden Living Wedgemere Nursing Home as a CNA. Karan enjoyed going to the beach, visiting the local casinos, caring for patients and above all cherished her time with family. Karan is survived by her three children Kyra Fernandez and her husband Josue of Taunton and Mohamed Mabrouk and his companion Natalia Luis both of Taunton and Joseph Rodriguez of Rocky Comfort, Missouri. She also leaves her grandchildren Luis, Ahrya, Alex Fernandez, Avri, Aydin and Aubry Mabrouk. TAUNTON – Richard Almeida, loving husband of Maureen (Corr) Almeida, died at Morton Hospital on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016. He was 78. Born in Taunton, he was the son of Antone and Anna (Semas) Almeida. He was a 1956 graduate of Coyle High School, and also attended Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI. He served in the US Marine Corp from 1956 to 1959. Richard worked as Head of Manufacturing for the Balfour Co. and Howard Sweet Co., retiring in 2006. A communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church of North Dighton, he loved family vacations on the Outer Banks, golfing with friends, serving on the class of 1956 Reunion Committee, as well as college basketball, college football, the Red Sox and the Patriots. Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, John Almeida and his wife Jessica of Taunton, Robert Almeida of Taunton and Richard Almeida of Pennsylvania; a daughter, Laura O’Connell and her husband Daniel of Taunton; two granddaughters, Kelsey and Molly O’Connell of Taunton; a great granddaughter, Mackenzie O’Connell of Attleboro; two brothers, James and Frank Almeida, both of Taunton; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Antone Almeida. He was employed for the City of Brockton as a custodian until his retirement. John was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan and enjoyed going to Foxwoods, playing bingo and spending time with his family. Mary P. Masterson a former secretary in the Taunton Public Schools died January 29, 2016 at Life Care Center in Raynham at the age of 91. A lifelong resident of Taunton, she was a daughter of the late Patrick J. and Bridget B. (Deveney) Masterson. She graduated from the former Immaculate Conception Grammar School and Taunton High School class of 1941. Mary served in the Taunton Public School system for forty-one years. She began her service in 1944 as a clerk in the Taunton High School office and later transferred to the superintendent’s office where she served as secretary to several school building committees. At the time of her retirement in 1985 when the main offices of the school department were located in the Taunton High School, by action of the school committee, the office complex was named as the “Mary P. Masterson Administration Suite” as a tribute for her many years of loyal and outstanding services. In a Taunton Daily Gazette article at the time of the dedication, she was referred to as the “First Lady” of the school department. A communicant of St Jude the Apostle Church, she served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the former Holy Rosary Church for many years and was a former Eucharistic Minister and Lector at the former Immaculate Conception Church. She was a member of Friends of the Taunton Public Library, Friars Church of the Chapel of Our Savior in Brockton and the Retired State County and Municipal Association of Massachusetts. She also was a former member of Weir Seniors and the local chapter of AARP and long time member of the Holy Union Association. She is survived by two nieces Anne Marie Enderby of Attleboro and Susan Smith of Los Angeles and one nephew, Edward “Ted” Smith of Boston. She was the sister of the late Charles Masterson and Barbara Smith. A Mass will be held at St Jude the Apostle Church in Taunton on Friday, February 12th at 10 AM. With family by her side, Geneva Gerry Rounds, 88, of Gilmanton Iron Works, NH finished her race in this life on February 3, 2016. She was then received into heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, where she will live for all eternity. Geneva is survived by her husband of 64 years, George Rounds of NH; her sister, Marolyn Gerry of ME; her three children: Richard Rounds of ME, Donna Powell of NH, Joyce Price of NH; 16 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren, with another on the way; and two nephews, Peter Hinckley of NM and George Hinckley of MA. Geneva was born November 11, 1927 and raised on her family’s farm in Raymond, Maine where she learned the value of family unity and hard work. Full of many interests, she chose to pursue teaching and attended Farmington State Teacher’s College in Farmington, Maine. She went on to get her Master’s degree in Home Economics Education at Simmons College in Boston, MA, and took other courses, earning an additional 21 credits. She taught home economics for 25 years at Norton High School in MA, during which time she was also a loving wife and mother. Full of smiles and laughter, Geneva loved quilting, baking, playing games, and serving those around her. She was always keen for an adventure and organized many family gatherings. In addition, she served quite capably in many capacities at North Christian Church, North Dighton, MA (formerly North Rehoboth United Methodist Church). She was an avid Boston Red Socks fan and also enjoyed preparing crafts and homemade pickles, relishes, and jams for many craft fairs. Caring, kind, and generous, she will always be remembered above all else as loyal: loyal wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. In Raynham, February 6, 2016 Denise M. (Levesque) Frost, Age 55, passed away in Life care Center of Raynham with her loving family by her side, following a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Denise leaves her husband Glenn Frost of Raynham. She was born in Wichita Falls, Texas, the daughter of Rene Levesque of Taunton and the late Elizabeth (McMann) Levesque. Denise had resided most of her life in Taunton. She was employed as a cosmetologist for many years and recently as a nurse for SRS Southeast Respite Home in Taunton for the past twelve years. Denise enjoyed dancing, karaoke and above all cherished her time with family. Denise leaves her four children Venus DeFaria and her husband David of Taunton, Chantae Rose of Florida, Elijah Frost of Taunton and Daniel Jones Jr. of Taunton. TAUNTON — Paul Meckowski, age 68, who was born in New Bedford, passed away on February 5, 2016 in Taunton after a brief illness. He and his wife Millie celebrated their 45th anniversary on December 26th. Paul was an alumni of Boston University at which he earned his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as a contract engineer at many companies throughout his career (including IBM, Northrop-Grumman, GE and Westinghouse). He also worked for the U.S. Defense Dept. on top-secret projects such as the Hubble Telescope, the Stealth Bombers, and multiple space shuttles. He was a long-time resident of Dighton and a member of SERPA. He was also a member of the Boston University Engineering Alumni Association. His favorite pastime was boating, refurbishing boats and buying and selling boats of all types. He was in constant competition with Shaw’s Boat Yard and the Taunton Yacht Club (which he lived between) as to who could have the most boats on their property at any given time. He was a frequent traveler and his favorite vacation destination was Florida. Paul was an avid sports fan and loved the Boston Red Sox. Paul is survived by his wife Millicent (Wagstaff) of Taunton, four daughters Bethany Meckowski and boyfriend Rick Pacheco of Swansea, Janna Meckowski and husband John Stone of North Attleboro, Christina Meckowski-Steiner and husband James Steiner of Dighton and Marilee Schryver and husband Justin Schryver of Raynham. He is also survived by 4 granddaughters (Carissa, Lilah, Samantha and Jayla), 2 grandsons (Matthew and Jackson) and another granddaughter on the way. TAUNTON – Charles Mendes, son of the late Frank Mendes and Joaquina (Santos) Mendes passed away at Marian Manor on February 11, 2016 of complications from Alzheimer’s, at the age of 88. He was the devoted husband of the late Theresa (Thuotte) Mendes. He is survived by two sons, Charles L. Mendes and his fiancé Diane Caroll of Lee, MA and Paul A. Mendes and his companion Michaela Greene of E. Taunton; three daughters, Patricia A. Paige and her husband Edwin of N. Dighton, Jeanne M. Meimarides and her husband Steve of Mansfield, and Lucy M. Gearty and her husband Timothy of Norwood; and five grandchildren, Melissa, Amy, Benjamin, Amanda and William.He is also survived by one brother, Richard Mendes and his wife Noreen of Taunton; and two sisters, Jaqueline Charlwood and JoAnne Nolette, both of Taunton.He was predeceased by four brothers, Frank, William, Robert and Joseph Mendes. He was a proud Veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy on the USS Seminole in the South Pacific, receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the American Area Medal. After the war, he returned home and worked at General Electric until he began his career in public service in 1954 working for the Mass. Dept. of Public Works until his retirement in 1990 after 36 years of service. After retirement, he embarked on a new career, employed by Travelers Insurance in Middleboro for 5 years. He then took a job working at Whittenton Hardware Store, working many more years as long as his health would allow, until his early 80’s when he left to care for his wife. Charlie was an avid sportsman, who loved fishing and bowling, and he passed this love to his sons and daughters.He was also a sports fan of all the home teams from the Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins. Whenever there was a game on, he was watching. The things he enjoyed the most involved family. Dancing with his wife, usually singing along to the orchestra topped the list. Family functions, playing cards with his brothers and sisters and other family members, and even Sunday Dinners at home with his children and grandchildren were always an enjoyment. His door was always open to all, and it was the more the merrier as their home was always the central family hub. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Thursday, Feb. 18th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Jude Church on Whittenton St. at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. In Brockton, of Taunton February 13, 2016 Judy R. (Randolph) Carroll wife of James E. Carroll died at West Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Brockton at the age of 71. Born and educated in Virginia, Judy was the daughter of the late John and Mable (Cale) Randolph. Judy worked at the former Rennie Curtin Factory as a seamstress for over nineteen years and then went on to work for Die Craftsmen in Taunton for many years. She was the mother of Jimmy Carroll and his wife Maureen of Raynham, Fritz Carroll of Taunton, Edward Carroll and his wife Sheila of Taunton, Frances Carroll and her companion Curtis Phillips of Taunton, Linda Gouveia and her husband David of Taunton and Brenda Nolette of Taunton. Grandmother of nine grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren. Calling hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Tuesday, February 16th from 4-7 PM Interment will be private. TAUNTON – Michael J. Botelho died at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford on Monday, Feb. 15, 2016. He was 42. Born in Taunton, he was the son of Dinis and Carol (Antunes) Botelho of Taunton. A graduate of Taunton High School class of 1992, Michael loved cooking, helping people and working on cars. He worked as a mechanic for Firestone. He was a communicant of St. Anthony church. Survivors include his daughter Kaila Botelho of E. Taunton; brother Albert Botelho and sister Deborah Kotkowski, both of Taunton. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Friday, Feb. 19th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
