Taunton – Janine M. Small , 56, of Taunton, died on Tuesday , June 9 th at Morton Hospital , after a short but courageous battle with cancer, with her beloved son Scott at her side. She is survived by her mother, Renate White of Taunton; her only child, Scott Lawrence of Taunton. Her brother Michael White of Taunton. Her sister Sandra Mitton and her husband David of Berkley. Her nephew and niece, Taylor and Jennifer Mitton of Berkley. Janine was married to the late Ronald I. Small, who sought her out on the soft ball field at Hopewell Park in hopes of recruiting her to play on his newly formed team. Not long after he proposed to her at Fenway Park. Janine was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Albert H. White. She was educated in Taunton, worked various jobs throughout the city until moving to Maine when Ron retired. After his passing in 2003 she returned home to Taunton. She was working at Carolina Logistic Services at the time of her death. She was a sports enthusiast, an avid New England fan who enjoyed watching games, especially the Patriots, with her dear friends Cindy and Linda. Janine spent much of her time over the years in the bleachers watching Scott’s games as he went through school and then faithfully followed Taylor and Jennifer throughout their school years. Like her late husband, Janine chose to donate her body to medical research. Therefore it is with deepest gratitude to Alfred Roy Funeral Home for making the arrangements in conjunction with UMASS Medical School to carry out Janine’s last wish – a sincere hope that their research will one day contribute to finding a cure to the horrific disease we call cancer. A memorial service will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
