In Taunton, April 11, 2015 Marjorie E. (Nichols) Gilbert daughter of the late Thomas and Claire (McManmon) Nichols died at Marion Manor Nursing Home at the age of 81. Marjorie was born in Dighton and was a graduate of St Mary’s High School in Taunton. She was a retired telephone operator for New England Telephone for over twenty five years. She was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Woman’s Guild and she was also a member of the church choir. Marjorie enjoyed animals, aerobics, walking and traveling especially to Cape Cod. She was the mother of Regina Gilbert of Taunton, Stephen Gilbert and his wife Kathy of Dighton, Michael Gilbert of Taunton and Aaron Gilbert and his wife Mary Duggan-Gilbert of Cohasset. Grandmother of Andrew Gilbert of NY, Jennifer Nichol Gilbert of CT, Mollie and Leesil Gilbert of Cohasset. Sister of Barbara Morey of CA formerly of Raynham and the late Edward and Robert Nichols. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Wednesday, April 15th at 10 AM. A Mass will be held at St Jude the Apostle Church in Taunton at 11 AM. Calling hours will be on Tuesday from 6-8 Pm. Interment St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton. In Fall River, April 12, 2015 Charles R. Curley, Age 70, passed away peacefully in Saint Ann’s Hospital while surrounded by his loving family. Charles was born in Boston, the son of the late James M. & Anna (Luppold) Curley. He has resided in East Taunton since 1984 and was formerly of Boston. Charles served his country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Air Force. He was employed as an electrician for the MBTA until his retirement. Charle’s enjoyed photography, computers, ancestry and spending time with his family. TAUNTON – Anna M. (Machado) Rogers, wife of the late John M. Rogers, died at Taunton’s Marian Manor on April 21, 2015. She was 92. Born in Taunton, she was a daughter of the late Jose M. and Caroline (Augusta) Machado. Anna was a lifelong resident of Taunton and graduate of Taunton High School. A homemaker for most of her adult life, she enjoyed walking through the woods and picking blueberries. Anna enjoyed dancing and was an avid Red Sox fan. With a knack for remembering everyone’s birthday, Anna would always bake and decorate a birthday cake for the upcoming event. Survivors include five sons, Joseph Rogers of Taunton, Manuel Rogers of Raynham, David Rogers of Lakeville, James Rogers of Berkley and John Rogers of TX; three daughters, Sandra Azevedo of NC, and Dorothy Freitas and Caroline Moniz, both of Taunton; a sister, Frances Pine of RI; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Joseph, Manuel, Anthony and George Machado, Rita Fratus, Lorena Lengyel, Mary Monteiro and Julia Thorne. Private services, for family only, will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, April 24th at 10 a.m. Family members are invited to be present to share memories from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., prior to the services. TAUNTON – Maria Luisa Almeida, wife of Candido Almeida of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital on April 21, 2015. She was 79. Born in Fornos de Algodres, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria Conceicao (Morais) Amaro do Santos. She had lived in Taunton since 1966. A homemaker for most of her adult life, Luisa was a doting parent; and enjoyed cooking, gardening and needlework. She was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church. In addition to her husband, she leaves a son, Stephen A. Almeida of Taunton; a daughter, Ann Marie Almeida of Taunton; two brothers, Leonel Santos of Taunton, and Jose Santos of Raynham; a sister, Sara Santos of NJ; and many nieces and nephews, and extended family. She was also the sister of the late Luis Santos of CT. In Providence, RI, April 25, 2015, Debra L. Cambra, Age 60, passed away peacefully in Rhode Island Hospital following a lengthy illness. Debra is survived by her loving husband Michael Cambra of Taunton. She was born in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Paul & Anne (Siniak) Pappas. Debra resided in Taunton and had lived in Dighton most of her life. She was educated in Dighton schools and a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth High School, class of 1972. Debra was a longtime employee of Princess House in Dighton and then Astrodyne Co. in Mansfield. Debra had a love for animals, visiting casinos, camping at Beaver Tail on Jamestown Island. Above all she cherished her family and friends and brightened everyone’s day with her great sense of humor. Debra leaves her daughter Jennifer Varley of Taunton and her step daughter Ericka Cambra-Whelchel of South Carolina. . She also leaves her grandchild Nicholas LaCombe of South Carolina. Her siblings Michael Pappas and his wife Patricia of Lakeville, Paul Pappas of Pelham, NH , John Pappas and his wife Michelle of Berkley and her late brother Peter J. Pappas. Debra also leaves several nieces , nephews and her great nieces and many friends. Funeral services are private and visiting hours are omitted at the request of the family. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Margaret (Hill) Jones. Mr. Jones attended Taunton schools and later served in the Army during the Vietnam War. A retired food service worker, he was employed by area school departments for many years. He enjoyed cooking and spending time with his grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed music, video games and spending time with his family and friends. Mrs. Margaret R. (Fernandes) Evans, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, May 5 in Morton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Jerome A. “Jerry” Evans. She was born 77 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Anthony and Marion (Perry) Fernandes. She was educated in Taunton, graduating from Taunton High School Class of 1956, and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, Margaret was employed as a supervisor of several departments at Wheaton College, Norton, for over 40 years. She was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church Womens Guild, the Church Choir, and was very active in many parish functions and events. She also performed and sang in many musicals staged by Heart to Heart Productions in the area, and was also involved in the Miss Taunton Pageants. Margaret especially enjoyed spending time with her family and with her dog, Scooter. She was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Taunton. She leaves: 1 son; Michael A. Evans of Taunton; 1 daughter: Toni M. Barra and her husband, James of Onset; 3 brothers: Arthur Fernandes and his wife, Kathy of Colorado, Anthony “Chico” Fernandes and his companion, Mary Sauder of Taunton, and Steven Fernandes and his wife, Diane of Taunton; 4 sisters: Sandra Offley of Taunton, Sister Joanna Fernandes of Rome, Italy, Susan Fernandes of W.Bridgewater, and Shirley Guillemette of Berkley; 4 grandchildren: Justin Evans, Daniel Hall, Edward Navarro and Tyler Barra, and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. TAUNTON – Edwin M. Rose of Taunton, husband of the late Norma (Leonard) Rose, died at Morton Hospital on May 16, 2015 following a brief illness. He was 89. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Rose) Rose. Eddie was a lifelong resident of Taunton and attended Taunton Schools. A US Navy Veteran of WW II, he served on the USS Astoria. He was employed by the former Haskon Co. of Taunton for over forty years. A longtime member of the Italian Social Club, Eddie enjoyed playing bocce and socializing with his many dear friends. He was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed spending time with his family. Survivors include two daughters, Gail Knowles and her husband Stephen of East Freetown and Joyce Rose of Taunton; two brothers, Francis Rose of Bourne and J. David Rose of Taunton; a sister, Evelyn Terry of Taunton; three grandchildren, Christopher Knowles of New Bedford, Kevin Knowles of Boston and Shane Rose of CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Bruce Rose and the brother of the late John Rose and Mary Terra. He was a former employee of Reed & Barton Co. in Taunton and worked there until his health allowed. Brian enjoyed nature, fishing, the Boston Bruins and was an avid Deadhead, Grateful Dead fan. Above all he cherished his time with his daughter and family and friends. Brian leaves his loving and devoted daughter Brianne Perry of Taunton. His parents Leo & Margaret “Peg” Perry of Taunton. He also leaves his siblings Diane Williams and her husband Al of Taunton, Mark Perry and his companion Melody Carvalho of Georgetown, ME. TAUNTON – Amarie Braga, 90 years young passed away on Monday, May 18, 2015. She was born in Taunton on March 9, 1925 and the daughter of the late Manuel and Catherine (Garcia) Mello. She was a lifelong Taunton resident and a communicant of the St. Andrew the Apostle Church for over 70 years. She attended Taunton schools and was a graduate of the first class of the Taunton Beauty Academy (currently Rob Roy Academy). Beauty culture was her career and passion. She made both men and women more confident by making them more attractive – with a few exceptions. One of her favorite expressions was “I’m a beautician, not a magician”. She returned to the Taunton Beauty Academy in 1975 as an instructor and director for the next 35 years retiring at the age of 80. It is said she trained the majority of hairdressers in a 25 mile radius. She loved her students and they adored her. You could not go anywhere with her and not bump into former students who would hug and kiss their beloved teacher – Mrs. Braga. She is survived by her husband William. They had a marriage that was envied by all that knew them. Amy and Bill could be found out dancing every Saturday night at Benjamin’s or other local hotspots. They lived life to the fullest and were known for their parties at their home on Clifford Street. She is also survived by her son, Robert Braga of Taunton, her daughter Suzanne Chapman and son-in-law, Ron Berti of Bedford, MA and her sister, Hilda Tavares of Taunton along with many nieces and nephews in the area. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Marlene Braga Colebourne of Costa Mesa, CA. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home at 80 Broadway in Taunton on Thursday, May 21st at 10 am. followed by a funeral mass at the St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 19 Kilmer Avenue in Taunton at 11 am. Born in Terceira, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Alexandrina Soares. Educated in the Azores, Delfina moved to the Taunton area many years ago and was employed by the former F.B. Rogers Company. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. Delfina enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family. Survivors include five sons, Frank, Domingos, and James Teixeira, all of Taunton, Charles Teixeira of East Taunton, and Joseph Teixeira of Wareham; five daughters, Alexandrina Costa, Eugenia Mendonca, Delfina Desrosiers, Lorraine Silvia and Mary Hill, all of Taunton; a brother, Joe Soares of Taunton; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Joaquin “Jack” Teixeira, and sister of the late Frank Soares, Olivia Paiva and Maria Nunes. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, May 22nd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
