In Taunton, February 24, 2015 Marguerite Marie “Peggy” Valliere, Age 88, passed away in Longmeadow Nursing Home following a brief illness. Marguerite was the loving wife of the late Dorius “Joe” Vallaire. She was born in Pawtucket, R.I., the daughter of the late Vincent & Anita (Larose) Salesses. Marguerite resided in R.I. her entire life and in East Greenwich for thirty years until her health allowed, then moving to Taunton in Longmeadow Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Hope High School in Providence, R.I., class of 1945. Marguerite enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, music and singing, listening to the radio and reading the newspaper and loved dogs. Marguerite was the sister of the late Jane Jacques of North Kingston, RI. She leaves her nieces and nephews Catherine Goudreau of Seekonk, Donna Marques of Taunton, Elizabeth Brower of Cranston, RI, Mark Salesses of Fairfax, VA and Scott Salesses of Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Tuesday, March 3rd at 9:30 am Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, 385 Central Ave., Seekonk, MA 02771 at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday from 5-7 pm. Burial will be in R.I. Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter, R.I. at 1 pm. Peggy was the sister of the late Jane Jacques of North Kingston, RI and her brother, the late Richard Salesses of Deming, New Mexico. TAUNTON – Joseph L. Pelletier, husband of the late Charlene R. (Pratt) Pelletier, died at Rhode Island Hospital on February 21, 2015. He was 81. Born, raised, and educated in Taunton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Genevieve (Tabak) Pelletier. Mr. Pelletier served in the infantry of the U.S. Army during the Korean War, attaining the rank of Sergeant. For many years he was employed as a store manager for various companies. His survivors include a son, Barry Pelletier and his wife Kelly of Taunton; and several siblings. He was also father of the late James R. Pelletier. His funeral services are private. TAUNTON – Patricia M. Dries, 56, died unexpectedly at her Taunton home on Feb. 20, 2015. Born in Plymouth, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and June (Barclay) Dries. Patricia was a happy person and made everyone around her cheerful. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed visiting New Hampshire, listening to music, dancing, and loved candy. Patricia is survived by a brother, Dennis S. Dries and his wife Kathy of Plympton; two sisters, Diana M. Pierce of Taunton, and Barbara E. Torres and her husband Buddy of Raynham; her dear and devoted companion of many years, Dean Pierce; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Michael J. Dries, Edward A. Dries and Judith A. Morisi. Kathryn I. “Kate” (Fratus) Reed age 50, of Taunton formerly of Brockton, died Thursday February 26, 2015 at the Beth Israel-Deaconess Medical Center in Boston after a lengthy illness. She was the loving wife of Mitchell Reed. Kate was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of Carol (Gagner ) Fratus of Brockton and the late William Fratus. A 1982 graduate of Brockton High School, Kate also received a degree from Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston. At the time of her death, she was senior administrative assistant at Fidelity Investments in Boston, a company she had worked for 15 years, Kate was an avid runner and also enjoyed gardening, the beach, traveling, music and photography. She loved all Boston sports especially opening day for the Red Sox. She truly loved being married to Mitch, spending time with her family and friends and shopping on Saturdays with her mother. She will be sorely missed by her “Bradie girl”. In addition to her husband and mother she is survived by her two step children Kelsey Reed and her fiancé Nicholas Cauley of Attleboro and Mitchell Reed and his wife Kayly of Middleboro. She was the grandmother of Layla Harper Cauley. Kate was the loving sister of William and Kevin Fratus both of Brockton and Kimberly Fratus-Johnson and her husband Michael Johnson of Wareham. She was the aunt of Teighla, Sydney, Michael, Ryan and Jarrid Johnson. She is survived by her aunts Shirley Link, Linda Steeves, Mary Murphy, Barbara Gagner and uncles Richard Gagner, Richard Link and the late James and Robert Gagner. She was the cousin of Ricky, Billy and Brad Link, Michael Steeves, Sean Murphy and Scott Gagner. Kate also leaves her Fidelity family and many friends. Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (rte.123) Brockton on Thursday 4-8 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 am for a Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein Church 631 N. Main St. Brockton at 10:30am. Born in Taunton, Donald was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1980 and after high school he enlisted into the US Navy serving from 1980-1984. Donald was a computer consultant from many different companies. He was an outdoors man; he loved to spend time with his family and with his beagles. He was the father of Kristina (Furtado) Radford of Tustin, CA. Brother of Diane Sylvia and her husband Dennis of Scottsdale AZ, Donna Doherty and her husband John of Berkley, David Furtado and Mark Curtis of Boston, Daniel Furtado and his wife Jeannette of Berkley, Dennis Furtado and his wife Martha of Taunton, Douglas Furtado and his wife Beth of Taunton, Dorothy Roberts of Berkley, Debra March and her husband Robert of East Taunton, Dean Furtado of Taunton and Denise Furtado of Taunton. Born, raised, and educated in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Rene L. and Margaret T. (Donahue) Theriault. A homemaker for most of her adult life, Margaret, enjoyed music, dancing and spending time with her family. She is survived by a son, Justin A. Gillon of Fall River; a brother, Louis Theriault of Barre, VT; four sisters, Mary Sullivan of New Mexico, Rose Tomase of Raynham, Rena McCarty of Lakeville, and Gail Theriault of Taunton; her former husband, James B. Gillon of Fall River and several nieces and nephews. She was also mother of the late Joshua A. Gillon, and sister of the late Staff Sgt. David E. Theriault. Born in Taunton and educated at Taunton High School class of 1940, Gert was the wife of Alfred M. Cornaglia. She was retired from the City of Taunton working for the Department of Human Service, Taunton Board of Health and the Taunton Water Department. She was a former member of the Red Hats, Queens Daughter’s, Weir Seniors and the Weir Grammar School Group. Gertrude was the mother of Frederic Cornaglia and his wife Anne Marie of Taunton, David F. Cornaglia of Taunton, Jeffrey Cornaglia and his wife Dianne of Berkley and the late Eileen Marie Baptiste. Grandmother of Brian, Lisa, Heidi, Jason, Traci, Justin, Lori, Ryan and Joshua. Great Grandmother of five. Sister of the late Kathryn Donovan, Thomas J. O’Neill, Jane Rose, Joseph and Frances O’Neill. TAUNTON – Filomena F. Resendes, wife of the late Antonio S. Resendes, died at the Taunton Nursing Home on March 12, 2015. She was 95. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, to the late Manuel F. and Antonia (Freitas) Resendes, she moved to the Taunton area in 1972. Filomena was employed by the former Rennie Curtain Factory for many years. She retired in 1984. A communicant of St. Anthony Church, she enjoyed reading books and newspapers in Portuguese, and crocheting. Survivors include a son, Jose F. Resendes and his wife Natalia of Taunton; a daughter, Maria F. Silveira and her husband Luis of Taunton; a brother, Joao Resendes of CA; a sister, Conceicao Resendes of Mansfield; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Manuel, Antonio and Jose Resendes, Emilia Santos, Helena Cabral, Maria Braga and Maria Jose Chaves. Mr. Richard S. Moitoza, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 10 at his residence. He was born 56 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Manuel S. and Mary (Almeida) Moitoza. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. He had been employed by a number of local blacktop and construction companies. Richard enjoyed hunting and was an avid fisherman. He leaves: 1 sister: Rosemary Eskenazi and her companion, Sharon DiCrosta of CT.; 4 brothers: Robert Moitoza and his wife, Linda, Ronald Moitoza and his wife, Stephanie, Raymond Moitoza, and Randy Moitoza and his wife, April, all of Taunton. Richard also leaves the light of his life, Morgan, his dear friend, Jane Sears, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother-in-law of the late Kim Moitoza. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Portuguese-American Civic Club, 175 School Street, on Sunday, March 22 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.

In Providence, R.I. Henry E. Imhoff Jr. March 10, 2015, Age 59, passed away suddenly, following a brief period of failing health in R.I. Hospital. Henry was born in Taunton, the son of the late Henry Imhoff & Grace (Westgate) Imhoff. He is survived by his loving fiancée Lisa Pierce of Taunton. Henry has resided all his life in Taunton. He was educated in Taunton schools. Henry enjoyed fishing, singing, country music and cherished his time with family and friends. He is survived by his son David Imhoff of Norton and his step children Sara, Tommy and Steven Pierce. He also leaves his sister Diana Haskell and her husband Russell Jr. of Berkley and his late brother Mark Imhoff. Henry also leaves his grandchildren Hailey, Savannah and Jazmin. He also leaves his niece Lisa Haskell and her fiancée Armando Rodriques. A graveside service will be held at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton on Friday, March 20th at 11 am. Mrs. Rita M. (Phaneuf) Kingsley, of Taunton, died Tuesday, March 10 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Roger C. Kingsley, Jr. She was born 91 years ago in Woonsocket, R.I., the daughter of the late Joseph and Malvina (Paquin) Phaneuf. Rita was educated in Woonsocket and had been a Taunton resident for many years. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a stamper for the former New Process Twist Drill Company in Taunton for many years. She enjoyed animals, cooking and visiting Foxwoods. She was a communicant of the former St. Joseph’s Church in Taunton. She leaves several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street on Friday, March 13 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Francis Cemetery. Meaghan was a senior at Salem State University where in May she will be awarded her degrees in both Dance and Early Childhood Education. Meaghan was a kind and loving young woman who brought a passion for life and a love for dance to both the Taunton community and Salem State University. Meaghan is survived by her parents Jennifer and Sean Noel of Taunton and brothers Michael Noel of Taunton and Matthew Noel of Boston; along with her Maternal and Paternal Grandparents, Uncles and countless friends including MJA. TAUNTON – Maria A. (Pacheco) Vieira, wife of Antonio S. Vieira of Taunton, died at Longmeadow of Taunton on March 13, 2015. She was 83. Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Virginio and Maria C. (Silva) Pacheco. Employed by the former Frank Noone Shoe Company for many years, Maria later worked for Swank Inc. She retired several years ago. A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Maria enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, sewing, crocheting and most of all, spending time with her family. In addition to her husband of sixty-four years, she leaves two sons, Arthur Vieira and his wife Maria of Taunton and Emmanuel Vieira and his wife Margarida of RI; six daughters, Maria Furtado and her husband Jose of Taunton, Margarida Chaves of New Bedford, Maria P. Vieira and her husband Antonio Medeiros, Maria A. Almeida and her husband Manuel, Maria D. Roias and her husband Gilberto and Maria J. Falcao and her husband Louis, all of Taunton; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Antonio J. Vieira and the sister of the late Maria L. Melo. (Murphy) In Taunton, March 9, 2015 John A. “Jack” Murphy husband of the late Norma (Riva) Murphy died suddenly at his home at the age of 86. Born in Taunton Jack was the son of the late Joseph and Ruth (Gough) Murphy. He was educated at St. Marys and Coyle High, Graduated Tabor Academy class of 1946 and received his associate’s degree in business at Boston University. Jack served in the US Army during WWII. He was retired from the Division of Employment Security for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in Boston and Worcester. Jack was a life member of the United States Power Squadrons a nationwide, recreational and educational boating organization. He originally joined in 1957. Jack was a past commander of the local Taunton River Sail and Power Squadron and was currently serving as treasurer. He had also served as the treasurer of USPS District 14 which covers the squadrons in southeastern New England. For his dedication and extraordinary work on behalf of the squadron and USPS, Jack was inducted into the Royal Order of Pilot Fish, an independent organization in District 14. Jack took and passed all the courses offered by USPS thus becoming a Senior Navigator. This allowed him to become a member of the Boston Navigators Club, a New England organization. Jack loved his sailboat “Calico”, had many stories and was proud of the fact that he was a “rag bagger” and not a “stink potter”. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Taunton Lodge of Elks, Taunton Redevelopment Authority, Battleship Cove Yacht Club and Tabor Academy Alumni. Jack was the father of Sharon Shustack and her husband Steven of Wareham, Diane Suneson and her husband Michael of Taunton and Jacquelyn Arieta and her husband Thomas of Rehoboth. Grandfather of Michael, James, Erin, Christina and her husband Dmitry, Christopher and Ian. Brother of the late Joseph, Robert, David and Richard Murphy. TAUNTON – Alvarina M. (Sousa) Matthews, wife of the late Curtis Matthews, lost a courageous fight with cancer on March 14, 2015. She was 75 years old. Alvarina was born and raised in Terceira, Azores, where as a young woman she worked on her family farm with her parents and siblings. She met her husband while he was in the U.S. Air Force stationed at Lages Field. They soon married and started a family. After returning back to America when her husband’s military career ended, she was employed by Texas Instruments, and retired from the company in late 1991. She was a devout Catholic, and attended mass at the Holy Family Parish in East Taunton. Her religion even influenced her cooking, where she loved to cook many loaves of sweet bread the night before Easter. Just prior to her illness, her Granddaughter Athena was able to fulfill Alvarina’s Christian lifelong dream of visiting the shrine, Our Lady of Fátima in Fátima, Portugal. While in country, Alvarina also went back to Terceira to visit her homeland once more. This trip was fulfilling spiritually and gave her peace. She loved tending to her rose beds, as well as crocheting for her family. However, her greatest love was raising her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She often referred to them as “my babies”. Alvarina was everyone’s Grandma. She loved dancing and enjoyed her Portuguese heritage, which she celebrated often with her friends and family. Any time the Chamarita music was playing, she was dancing. She is survived by her children, Anna (Matthews) Monteforte and her husband Abel Viveiros, Frank Matthews and his wife Rose (Hairston) Matthews, Betty (Matthews) Rice and her husband Tom Dufault and Curtis Matthews; her grandchildren, Athena (Monteforte) Goulart, Robbie Monteforte, Melissa (Monteforte) Sinnott, Carlos Matthews, Jeremy Matthews, Joshua Rice, CJ Matthews and Tyler Matthews; her great grandchildren, Dylan and Aria Goulart, Robbie Monteforte, Jr. and Carlos Matthews Jr.; her sisters, Emily Borges, Merces Melo, Durvalina Correia, and Evelina Cunha along with several nieces, nephews and close friends. She was also the sister of the late Manuel Sousa. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, March 19th a 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at Pinehill Cemetery.
