On November 27th Dorothea E. Mulhern, age 93, passed away peacefully at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Norton. Mrs. Mulhern was the beloved wife of the late R. Paul Mulhern and devoted mother to David Mulhern, mother in law to Ellen Mulhern, and loving grandmother to Kelly and Paige Mulhern of Wrentham. She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Dorothy Stanton and sister of the late Msgr. Robert L. Stanton, all natives of Taunton. She is also survived by a number of devoted nieces and nephews. A graduate of Taunton High School and Emmanuel College, Mrs. Mulhern was a lifelong resident of Taunton and was actively involved in many local charities including the American Heart Fund, Queen’s Daughters, and Catholic Charities. She also worked for many years as a special education teacher in the Raynham School System. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Tuesday, December 2nd at 9 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday from 4-7 pm. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. Mr. Richard A.J. Wilford, of Taunton, died Sunday, November 30 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of the late Evelyn (Correia) Wilford and the late Fannie O. (Perry) Wilford. He was born 91 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Albion J. and Yvonne (Cote) Wilford. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, Richard had been employed as a moldmaker for Lynn Products of Taunton for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with Battery A of the 734th Field Artillery Battalion, and saw action in Northern France, the Rhineland, the Ardennes and Central Europe. Richard was a member of the Chester A. Bearse Post #405, American Legion of Raynham, and the David F. Adams Post #611, Veterans of Foreign Wars of Taunton. He enjoyed planting his garden, working outdoors, and his dogs, Jake, Angel and the newest, Blackie. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. He leaves: 2 daughters: Sharon M. Maycock and her husband, Paul of Woonsocket, R.I., and Bernadette M. Hilton of Taunton; 1 sister: Lorraine Barefoot of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. Richard was also the brother of the late Vivian Tourigny of Taunton. Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, December 5 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Florence resided in Swansea for most of her life. Florence was the mother of Bradford Hair of Fall River, Barry Hair (wife Melissa) of Fall River, Pamela Bucko (husband Michael) of Tiverton, Sandra Duarte (husband Sal) of Taunton and Diane Moniz ( husband John Shea) of Holbrook; she was the sister of the late Mary Arruda, Massey Espinola, Laura Silvia and Olive Rebello. She leaves beloved grandchildren Jason, Juanita, Tina, Tonya, Desiree, Delight, Jeremy, Joseph, Parker, Carson and Cooper, beloved great grandchildren Austin, Anthony and Veronica and several nieces and nephews. TAUNTON – John D. Reis, husband of Antonieta (Peixoto) Reis, passed away on Nov. 30, 2014, surrounded by loved ones. He was 76. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, he was the son of the late Luis F. and Ana (Cabral) dos Reis. He moved to Taunton in 1967, after having lived in Bermuda for a brief time. Employed as a cook with the former Paul A. Dever School for over fifteen years, Mr. Reis retired in 1995. He enjoyed purchasing and renovating real estate properties. He also cherished spending time with his family at Cape Cod. He loved to travel and frequent casinos with friends and family. John had a great sense of humor and was always willing to help anyone in need. He will truly be missed by many. He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. In addition to his wife, Mr. Reis leaves a son, John L. Reis of Berkley; a daughter, Elizabeth (Demaral) Reis of Raynham; a sister, Maria “dos Anjos” Dias of Taunton; six grandchildren, Vanessa Demaral, John Reis, Angela Demaral, Joseph Reis, and Ryan and Tyler Demaral; and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Jose Reis. TAUNTON – Maria (Machado) Resendes, wife of the late Agostinho Sousa Resendes, died at the Taunton Nursing Home on Dec. 5, 2014. She was 89. Born in Santa Maria, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Justina (Almada Chaves) Machado. A Taunton area resident since 1968, Mrs. Resendes was employed by the former Sheridan Silver Company for many years, before many years ago. She was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, and in her spare time, enjoyed crocheting. Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her beloved family. Survivors include four daughters, Maria L. Dos Anjos and her husband Jose of Bristol, RI, and Ludy Resendes, Linda Sabino and Lydia C. Resendes, all of Taunton; a sister, Ermelinda Pimentel of Taunton; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Antonio C. Resendes and Jose Resendes, and the sister of the late Antonio Leonardo Machado and Jose, Joao, Manuel and Dinis Machado. TAUNTON – William F. Bezok, husband of the late Virginia (Souza) Bezok, died at Massachusetts General Hospital on Dec. 5, 2014. He was 83. Born and raised in Taunton, he was the son of the late William J. and Helen (Lukasewski) Bezok. He was a 1949 graduate of Taunton High School. Mr. Bezok was employed by Swank, Inc. for forty-two years before retiring in 1991. A communicant of Annunciation of The Lord Church and member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, he received the Marian Medal Award in 2013. Bill was a lifelong avid fisherman and enjoyed following all Boston sports teams. Survivors include a son, William F. Bezok, Jr. of Taunton; three daughters, Charlene Shea and her husband Daniel of Lakeville, Sheila Cyr and her husband Brian of Inverness, FL and Cheri Adkins and her husband Christopher of Taunton; six granddaughters, Ashley, Amanda and Alyssa Shea, Brittany Bezok, and Lyla and Scarlett Adkins; two great granddaughters, Layna Watts and Summer Mahrous; and several nieces and nephews. Helen M. (D’Amarino) O’Connell age 94, of Brockton, died Sunday at Life Care of West Bridgewater. She was the wife of the late Francis S. O’Connell. Helen was born in Brockton one of nine children of the late Eduardo and Lucia (Angelo-Cola) D’Amarino and remained a lifelong resident of the city. A graduate of Brockton High School, Helen went to work to support her young family when her husband became ill. She was a stitcher at Cappiachione Brothers Shoe in Brockton and ET Wright/Bostonian Shoe in Whitman. In her free time Helen loved gardening, Italian cooking, watching the Food channel and cheering on the Patriots. Throwing parties and being with her family gave Helen the most enjoyment in her life. Helen was the mother of Edward O’Connell of Brockton, Donna Dzenawagis and her husband John of Marstons Mills, John O’Connell and his wife Sharon of Taunton and the late Carol Terrill wife of George of Brockton. She also leaves 4 grandchildren Leah Hart of Olympia, Washington; Danne Dzenawagis, of Ann Arbor, Michigan; Sean Dzenawagis of Marstons Mills and Jessica O’Connell of Taunton, 2 great grandchildren Thomas and Taylor Hart and many nieces and nephews. Helen was the sister of the late Jenny Raymond, Francesca Felos, Angie Davis, Rose Pinnetti and Tony, Louis, Edward and Michael D’Amarino. TAUNTON – David R. Peck, III, husband of Theresa A. “Terry” (Souza) Peck of Taunton, died at the Taunton Nursing Home on Dec. 8, 2014. He was 83. Born in North Dighton, he was the son of the late David and Gladys (Littleton) Peck, II. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a 1949 graduate of the former Taunton Vocational High School. Mr. Peck ran Peck’s County St. Garage for over thirty years, retiring in 1998. He had previously been employed as a mechanic at Reese Air Force Base in Texas. A life member of the Elks Lodge 150 and the Taunton Yacht Club, he enjoyed snow skiing, snowmobiling, boating, watching NASCAR racing, and traveling in his RV. He built and owned modified race cars that raced at the Seekonk Speedway and tracks throughout New England. In addition to his wife, Mr. Peck leaves two sons, David Peck, IV and his wife Cathy of Lakeville and Rodney Peck and his wife Noela of Lakeville; a daughter, Debra Pabst and her husband William of East Taunton; two stepsons, William Gantz of Norton and Larry Gantz of Taunton; a stepdaughter, Sandra Johnson of Taunton; two brothers, Donald Peck of North Dighton and Danny Ray Peck of Orlando, FL: ten grandchildren, William Pabst, II, Chris Pabst, Justin, Jessica, Kristen and Alyssa Peck, John and David Boulder and Larry and Elizabeth Gantz; several great grandchildren; and two nieces. Patricia is survived by her husband Henry Nemet of East Taunton. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Harold and Evelyn (Benson) Burns. Pat has resided in East Taunton for the past 32 years and was formerly of Boston. She enjoyed playing bingo, scratch tickets, shopping, vacationing in New Hampshire and above all cherished her time with family. Patricia leaves her loving children Henry Nemet Jr. of East Providence, RI, Danny Nemet of East Taunton, Russell Nemet of East Taunton, Helen Nemet of East Taunton, Carol Waller of Chula Vista, CA. Patricia also leaves her grandchildren Talia Waller, Cory Nemet, Brianna Nemet, Cameron Waller, Hope Waller and A.J. Nemet. TAUNTON – Felicita “Fela” (Rodriquez) Aponte, wife of the late Apolinario D. “Polo” Aponte, died in Taunton on Dec. 10, 2014. She was 80 years old. Born in Patillas, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Marcelo and Aleja (Velazquez) Rodriquez. Educated in Puerto Rico, she was a Taunton area resident since 1956. A retired packer, Mrs. Aponte was employed by Nabisco for many years until 1987. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed bingo, camping and watching baseball. Survivors include six sons, Raymond Aponte of Fort Myers, Florida, Edward, William, Edwin, and Albert Aponte, all of Taunton, and John Aponte of Somerset; five daughters, Theresa Maltorell, Susan Mello and Cynthia Thomas all of Taunton, and Marlyn Rose and Rosemary Sikorski, both of East Taunton; 21 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was the also the grandmother of the late Samantha Mello. She was born in St. Miguel, Portugal, the daughter of the late Humberto & Maria (DeFreitas) Soares DeFreitas. Mary has resided in Taunton the past 52 years. She was the former owner of Martin Driving School in Taunton. Mary enjoyed cooking, her dogs and spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving children Herb Martin and his wife Ellen Perry-Martin of Berkley, James Martin and his wife Cindy of Weston, FL and Mary Taylor of Taunton. She also leaves her grandchildren Kyle Taylor, Kasi Taylor, Cody Martin, Trevor Martin, McKenzie Martin and Andrew Martin and her great grandchildren Ava McCormick and Evelyn Taylor. Born and educated in Sao Miguel, Portugal, Maria was the daughter of the late Ernesto and Guilhermina (Correia) Bento. She was retired from the Swank Company working in Attleboro and Taunton. Maria was the mother of Elizabeth Wade Tome and her husband Stephen of Dighton and Susan Tome of Taunton. Loving grandmother of Gabriella and Harrison Wade of Dighton and Keelan, Denaia and Jazarah Myers of Taunton. Sister of Maria DeMelo of Brazil, Ernesto Bento of Sao Miguel, Portugal and the late Jose Bento. TAUNTON – Jeanette “Jean” (Mador) Arikian of Taunton, wife of the late Richard “Dick” Arikian, died at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton on Dec. 14, 2014. She was 84. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred A. and Theresa (Coute) Mador. A lifelong resident of Taunton, she graduated from Taunton High School in 1948 and later received an associate’s degree in accounting from Fisher Jr. College. Mrs. Arikian was formerly employed as a teacher’s aide at the Hopewell School and had also worked at the Trucchi’s Market former lunch counter. A hospice volunteer, Jean enjoyed reading and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church and a member of the former St. Joseph Church Women’s Guild. Survivors include four sons, Richard M. Arikian and his wife Jody of Nashua, NH, Mark S. Arikian and his wife Denise, and Paul M. Arikian, all of Taunton, David P. Arikian and his wife Trina of Newburg, Missouri; a daughter, Mary Arikian Chaplin and her husband Michael of Mattapoisett; a sister-in-law, Eileen Jursik of Rochester, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Gary R. Arikian and the sister of the late Wilfred A. “Sonny” Mador. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former Bishop Cassidy High School in 1963, and received her Bachelor’s Degree from Stonehill College in Easton and St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Medical Technology in Worcester. Prior to her retirement, Collette was employed as a Manager for General Electric Biomedical in Jupiter, Fla. She was previously employed by Marquette Medical Services in Kansas City, Kansas, and was formerly employed by Johnson & Johnson, PPG Biomedical, and the Equipment for Medicine Corp. She was a member of the Association for Medical Technologists. Collette enjoyed playing tennis, golf, and traveling. She was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton. TAUNTON – Manuel R. Lima, husband of Maria F. (Brito) Lima of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital on Dec. 16, 2014 at the age of 75. Born in Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel T. and Eva C. (DaCosta) de Lima. Mr. Lima lived in the area since 1959. A retired shoe cutter, he was employed by the former Corcoran Shoe Company for over twenty years. Mr. Lima was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and a member of the Holy Ghost Society. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, clamming, playing cards with his close friends and traveling, especially to the Azores. He also enjoyed making homemade wine. His favorite pastime was enjoying the company of his family. In addition to his wife, Mr. Lima leaves a son, Daniel R. Lima and his fiancé Marina Pires of Taunton; a daughter, Jo Ann Lima and her fiancé Miguel Cadete of Taunton; two brothers, Carlos Lima of Coral Gables, FL and George Lima of St. Petersburg, FL; a sister, Dolores Areias of Brandon FL; three grandchildren, Robert J. Maturo, Michael D. Lima and Zachary J. Fitzgerald; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Robert Lima. TAUNTON – Ann Theresa (Pacheco) Ploude, wife of the late Joseph L. Ploude, died at Marian Manor on Dec. 14, 2014. She was 97. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Theresa (Cabral) Pacheco. A lifelong resident of Taunton, Mrs. Ploude attended Taunton schools. A homemaker for most of her adult life, she was employed for a time by G.E. and the former Ansonia Mills. In her spare time, Mrs. Ploude enjoyed crocheting and jigsaw puzzles. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Survivors include two sons, Robert A. Ploude and his wife Patricia of Raynham and Richard K. Ploude and his fiancé Maryann McCarthy of Lakeville; a daughter, Mary Ann Crownover of East Taunton; five grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother-in-law of the late Elizabeth Ploude and Lloyd Crownover and was also predeceased by siblings, Joseph Pacheco and Mary Sylvia. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday Dec. 23rd at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, East Taunton at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. Everett F. “Doc” Souza, of Berkley, died Friday, December 19 in the Life Care Center of Raynham following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Jean E. (Dupont) Kingsley-Souza. He was born 88 years ago in Kingston, Ma., the son of the late Manuel and Rose (Moonish) Souza. Doc was educated in Kingston and Plymouth and had been a Berkley resident for the past 38 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a long distance truck driver for the former Old Colony Trucking Company. He was previously employed by Consolidated Freightways, Royce Aluminum, and Perkins Paper. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Doc was a member of the Teamster’s Union, the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57, and the Berkley American Legion, Post 121. He enjoyed caring for his birds and spending time with his family, especially his granddaughter, Trista. In addition to his wife, he leaves: 2 daughters: Justine Kingsley-Ferreira of Atlanta, Ga., and Erika Kingsley of Taunton; his granddaughter: Trista Kingsley of Taunton. Doc also leaves: 2 sons: Everett F. Souza, Jr. of N.H., and Wayne Souza of Tx.; 2 daughters: Sandra Sheperd of In., and Lynn Weaver of N.H.; 1 sister: Florence Geltz of Bridgewater and several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Tony, Joe, Augie, Manuel, David and Linda. Visiting Hours will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Tuesday, December 23, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 P.M. BEDFORD – Brian P. Benjamin, formerly of Taunton, died at his Bedford home on Dec. 12, 2014 at the age of 56. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late George and Frances (Stack) Benjamin. A 1976 graduate of Taunton High School, Brian enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1977 and served for the following three years. He was the general manager of Benjamin’s Restaurant in Taunton for over twenty-five years, and later worked at the VA Medical Center of Bedford as a chef. Brian loved animals, and in his spare time enjoyed playing golf. Survivors include a son, Eric P. Benjamin of Taunton; a daughter, Ashlee Benjamin of Marstons Mills; two brothers, Michael Benjamin and his wife Fatima and James Benjamin and his wife Debbie, all of Taunton; a sister, Patricia Benjamin Woods of Raynham; and several nieces and nephews. Memorial Services will be held at the Silva Funeral home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, Dec. 23rd at 7:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In Taunton, December 19, 2014 Mary McCarthy wife of the late Charles McCarthy died at Taunton Nursing Home at the age of 90. Mary was born and educated in Japan. She was a retired assembler for Raytheon Industries working there for many years. Mary was the daughter of Miuki Asami of Japan and grandmother of two granddaughters and many great grandchildren. A service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Tuesday, December 23rd at 11:30 AM. Calling hours will be from 10:30-11:30 AM Tuesday morning.
