Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Ludevia R. (Moquin) Duarte. Educated in Taunton schools, she was employed as an accounts receivable clerk at the former Renie’s Curtain Factory for thirty years. She was also employed by Reed & Barton for ten years. She enjoyed being a devoted wife and mother and cherished time spent with her family. Survivors include a son, Steven R. Sarvia of Taunton; a sister, Lorraine Santarpia of Somerset; two grandsons, Steven Seifert and Ryan Sarvia, both of Taunton. In Taunton, September 8, 2014 Jean Elizabeth Burniston, Age 61, passed away in her home following a lengthy illness, while surrounded by her loving husband and friends. Jean was the wife of Harry Burniston of Taunton. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Wheaton & Doris (Forbes) Monroe. Jean has resided in Taunton since 1985 and was formerly of Attleboro. She was a devoted aide for the Commonwealth of MA and worked for the former Paul E. Dever State School and S.R.S. Jean loved her Shetland Sheepdogs and was a professional trainer. She enjoyed flower gardening, her work and cherished her time with her husband and many friends. In addition to her husband, Jean also leaves her brother Ronald Monroe of CT. She also leaves many friends and enjoyed the monthly breakfast club meetings. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton on Thursday, September 11th at 11 am. Visiting hours are kindly omitted. Lillian Mary Alegi Riva of Taunton, MA passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Sept 10, 2014. She was the eldest daughter of the late Elsa Nigra Alegi and Lavinio F. Alegi, formally of Fano, Italy and Taunton, MA. For 64 years, she was the beloved wife of Ramo F. Riva. Devoted mother of Brenda Ruggiero and her husband William of Taunton, MA, Randall Riva and his wife Diane of Winchester, MA and Cynthia Sullivan and her husband Patrick of Taunton, MA Loving grandmother of Brianne Gore and her husband Javin of Boston, Ryan Ruggiero of Edgewater, NJ, Marina Riva of Boston, MA , Renee Riva of Boston, MA, Brittany Sullivan of Boston, MA and Patrick Sullivan Jr. of Taunton, MA and proud great- grandmother of Tabor William Gore of Boston, MA. She was the cherished sister of Gilbert F. Alegi and his wife Lorette and Laura Patneaude and her husband Robert, both of Taunton, MA and is survived by several dear nieces, nephews and cousins. Lillian was a graduate of Walker Grammar School where she was the president of her 8th grade class. She graduated magna cum laude from Taunton High School in 1947 where Lillian received the Spanish medal for excellence. Lillian was fluent in 4 foreign languages and received a full tuition scholarship to Bridgewater State College for foreign language study. Following graduation, Lillian was an IBM operator at the silver company Reed and Barton. As a member of the Riva family, she helped establish the famous Gondola Restaurant which she owned with her family for more than 55 years. She was a member of the Peter B. Gay Sons of Italy Lodge, the Taunton Italian Social Club, the Taunton Junior Women’s Club, the Immaculate Conception Women’s Guild, the Coyle and Cassidy High School Mothers’ Club and the Weir Seniors. During the winter months, Lillian enjoyed vacationing at her home in Pompano Beach, Florida. Lillian’s summers were spent at her beach house in Point Independence, Onset, MA where she enjoyed spending time by the bay with her family. In her spare time Lillian enjoyed shopping, tending to her rose garden, crocheting, antiquing, ceramics, and endless phone conversations with family and friends including her many dear cousins in Italy. Her illness did not hold her back from taking a family trip this past April to Rome and Fano, Italy. She was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a member of the former Immaculate Conception Church and now St. Mary’s Parish. In Fall River, September 19, 2014 Lillian M. Murphy Age 84, passed away in St. Ann’s Hospital following a brief illness while surrounded by her loving family. Lillian was the wife of the late Charles T. Murphy. She was born in Boston, the daughter of the late Joaquin & Harriet (Dyer) DaRosa. Lillian was a Taunton resident most of her life. She attended both Boston and Taunton schools and following high school attended nursing school where she received her LPN license. Lillian worked at the former Paul E. Dever State School in Taunton as a LPN. She enjoyed trips to the casinos, camping, and playing bingo and cherished her time with family. Lillian also found it fulfillment in her volunteer work, helping the elderly and the Lions Club in Raynham where she was an active member. Lillian is survived by her children Robert Murphy and his wife Filomena of Taunton, Paul Murphy of New Bedford and her late son Charles T. Murphy. She was preceded in death by her siblings Carol Smith, Kathy Amaral, Eleanor Rosenberg, Dolly Leonard, Gene DaRosa and Jack DaRosa. He was a member of the 320th Military Police in Taunton, 399th EVAC Hospital and the Grady Raiders. He was retired from the Dighton ICI American Inc. for over thirty eight years. He was the father of Collette Ulak of Taunton. Brother of the late Sophia Ulak, Caroline Karman, Martin Ulak, Frank Ulak, Anna Ledee, John Ulak, Catherine Cote, Rosalie Ulak and Adele Renaud. A member of the Oakland Seniors and past president of the Portuguese American Civic Club, she also enjoyed bingo and casinos. Mr. Richard Robert “Dick” Barrington, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Saturday, September 20 in Morton Hospital. He was born 65 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Richard W. “Chief” and Leah D. (Carr) Barrington. He was educated in Taunton, having graduated from St. Mary’s Grammar School and the former Msgr. James Coyle High School. Following high school, Dick graduated from Florida State University. Prior to his retirement in the spring of 2014, he was employed by the City of Taunton School System for several years. He was previously employed by the Prudential Insurance Company, and also worked as a bartender. He was a member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks. An accomplished athlete, Dick enjoyed playing golf and pool, and was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in 1967 as a catcher. He also enjoyed painting landscapes, traveling, watching all sports and WGBH television. He put many miles on the soles of his sneakers walking many of Taunton’s streets. He leaves an aunt, Betty Barrington, and his cousins, Joanne McNamara and Joe Richie, Ted, Kathy and Jake McNamara, Mark, Christie and Bret McNamara, Nancy and Joan Nigro, and the Cornaglia family. Dick was predeceased by his aunts, Margaret, Joan and Mary. A Memorial Service and Collation will be held at a date and time to be announced. Mr. Copeland was an avid sports fan, but he especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play soccer. He also enjoyed reading, camping and gardening. TAUNTON – Fernandes E. “Fred” Lopes, husband of Maria F. “Fana” (Marques) Lopes of Taunton, died at the New Bedford Rehab Hospital on Sept. 25, 2014. He was 86. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Antonio E. and Irene (Nunes) Lopes. He was a lifelong Taunton resident. A graduate of Taunton High School, he later received a BA from Stonehill College and a master’s degree in education from Bridgewater University. Mr. Lopes was a Fulbright Scholar to India, and later a Ford Foundation Scholar to the Soviet Union. He taught in the Taunton, Norton and Somerset school systems and he served as principal in the Leonard and Caswell schools. Mr. Lopes retired many years ago. In addition to his wife of fifty-two years, he leaves a son, Mark E. Lopes of Taunton; a daughter, Lisa Maria Moss and her husband Jeffrey of South Windsor, CT; a granddaughter, Caitlin Moss of Worcester; and a sister-in-law, Ely O. Marques of Taunton. In Taunton, October 6, 2014 Manuel Silva Age 61, passed away in his home unexpectedly. Manuel is survived by his wife Rosemarie (Marko) Silva of Taunton. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Manuel & Antoinette (Barago) Silva. Manuel has resided all his life in Taunton. He was employed for the Commonwealth on MA as a maintenance worker. Manuel was an active fundraiser for Senator Marc Pacheco, he volunteered at Nine Lives of Norton and was a devoted animal lover who cherished his family and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Manuel leaves his daughter Wanda Silva and her husband Albert Tow of Brookline. He also leaves his siblings Maria Panettieri of Lakeville, Linda Ahr of Lakeville, Josie Ashley of TN and Donald Silva of Lakeville. Manuel is survived by his loving grandchildren Jared and Zoe Olivia Silva Tow both of Brookline. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday, Oct. 10th from 5-7 pm. A funeral home service will follow at 7 pm. Burial is private at the request of the family. Donations in Manuel’s memory may be made to Nine Lives of Norton, 84 Hill St., P.O. In Raynham of East Taunton, October 6, 2014 Lorraine E. (Semas) O’Connell wife of the late Joseph E. O’Connell Sr. died at Life Care Center of Raynham at the age of 86. Born and educated in Taunton, Lorraine was the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna (Willette) Semas. Lorraine was the mother of Joseph E. O’Connell Jr and his wife Lisa of Taunton. Mimi of Keara Allen and her husband Steven, Kelan O’Connell and Zachary McGuire. Mimi Mimi of Braylan and McKenzie Allen. A service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton Friday, October 10th at 11:30 AM. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-8 PM. Interment St Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
