She was a former member and past president of Immaculate Church woman’s guild and was a member of the St Jude the Apostle church women’s guild, Gallic Society, Red Hats and the Queens Daughters. TAUNTON – Norbina A. Frias, longtime Taunton resident, died at the Taunton Nursing Home on Aug. 10, 2014 with her family by her side. She was 90 years old. Born in St. Michael, Azores, the daughter of the late Jose and Conceicao (Cordeiro) Pacheco Amaral, Mrs. Frias moved to the U.S. in 1966. She worked for Texas Instruments and Swank Inc. for many years before retiring in 1985. In her spare time, Mrs. Frias enjoyed spending time at home with her family. Survivors include her son, Joseph A. Frias and his wife Ann of Taunton; a sister, Fernanda Bolieiro of Attleboro; son-in-law, Peter Arieta; four grandchildren, Matthew and Christina Frias, Marie Barber and Lindsay Arieta; a great granddaughter, Grace Padon; and several nieces and nephews. LEHIGH ACRES, FL – Richard M. Lewis, formally of Taunton, died unexpectedly at his Florida home on Aug. 13, 2014. He was 78. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Emanuel and Stella (Rogovich) Lewis. Educated in Taunton schools, Richard later served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was the owner and broker of Century21 Lewis Realty Associates in Taunton. A Member of the North Bristol Board of Realtors, and Taunton Elks Lodge 150, he was a Bristol County Sheriff for over thirty years. Richard founded and organized Taunton’s first Christmas Parade, which has now become a city tradition. He leaves his beloved wife of 55 years, Edith “Edie” (Bailey) Lewis of Lehigh Acres; four daughters, Kelly Lewis of Taunton, Kim McGaughran of North Dighton, Kristine Fulkerson of Wilmington and Keri Lewis-Wray of Raynham; his sister, Maureen Russo of Marston Mills; 11 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Kathleen Lewis, and the brother of the later Frederick Lewis. He was the beloved husband of the late Claire (Lamarche) Karol. He was born 88 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Edward and Ann (Gubala) Karol. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, John had been employed as a materials handler for Reed and Barton Silversmiths for over 25 years. He was previously employed by the City of Taunton Cemetery Department at Mayflower Hill Cemetery. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the European-Middle Eastern-African Theatre, and participated in the D-Day Invasion at Normandy. He was a member of the Reed and Barton Quarter Century Club. John was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. He leaves: 2 sons: Daniel Karol and his wife, Cheryl of Taunton, and Edward Karol and his wife, Laura of Taunton; 3 grandchildren: Jennifer, Christina and Ryan Karol, all of Taunton; 4 great grandchildren: Kayla Karol, Skye Correia, Hailey Correia, and Kiley Correia, and several nieces and nephews. A communicant of Annunciation of The Lord Church, Lucy was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, and volunteered on Bingo night at the former Our Lady of Lourdes Church. She was a former Cub and Boy Scouts Den Mother. Lucy’s favorite pastime was enjoying the company of her family. Survivors include two sons, Glenn Gonsalves of Florida and Jeffrey Gonsalves and his companion Kimberly LaPlante of Taunton; a daughter, Dareise Donaruma and her husband Michael of Taunton; a brother, Arthur Lewis of Taunton; a sister, Delores Kenney of Taunton; seven grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. He was the son of the late Charles Aloysius Gillis and Anna Cecelia (Alexander) Gillis. Born anad raised in Brockton, he attended Brockton schools and graduated Brockton High School, Class of 1957. He served in the United States army before becoming a Brockton police officer. He retired as Chief in 1988. He enjoyed his retirement driving buses at H&L Bloom, where he made many friends. In addition, he was a long time Notary Public and Justice of the Peace. He is survived by his wife, Jean F. Gillis of Indian Harbour FL, daughter Virginia Dutra of Assonet, son Andrew Gillis of Rockledge FL, granddaughter Jessica Murray & great granddaughter Gabreanna Murray both of Assonet, and sister Louise “Lulu” Gillis of Onset. He now joins his late brothers Edward F. and John C. Gillis. Bob most enjoyed spending time with his great granddaughter, socializing with friends, doing crosswords and stumping people with his trivia.
