Mr. John Francis Donnelly, Jr., of Taunton and formerly of Belmont, died Friday, July 11 in Taunton Nursing Home following a period of failing health. He was born 77 years ago in Belmont, the son of the late John F. and Margaret Donnelly, Sr. He was educated in Belmont and had been a Taunton resident for several years. Prior to his retirement, John was a self-employed taxi driver in the Belmont area for many years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the early Vietnam Era. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. A Memorial Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, at a time and date to be announced.

In Middleboro, June 26, 2014 Mark T. Hochstrassor, Age 59 passed away suddenly by a fatal accident. Mark was born in the Bronx, N.Y., the son of the late Harold & Alice (McCollough) Hochstrassor. He was educated in New York schools. Mark has resided in Taunton since 1997. He was employed as a bus driver for Gatra Bus Co. in Taunton. Mark was an avid reader, he enjoyed smoking his pipe and was a member of the Masons. Mark is survived by his son Nathan M. Hochstrassor and his wife Leighann of Mechanicsville, VA. His grandchildren Paige and Lucas Hochstrassor of VA and Jennifer Bergeron of Taunton. His bother Greg Hochstrassor of FL. Mark also leaves his dear friend Sheila Bergeron of Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Saturday July 26th from 12-1 pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780. A funeral home service will follow at 1 pm. Burial is private at the request of the family. Mr. Daniel Michel Bedard, of Taunton, passed away of natural causes Sunday, July 20 in the Memorial Hospital, Pawtucket, R.I. He was the loving companion of Nella Freire of Central Falls, R.I., and the former husband of Carol (Pacheco) Bedard of No. Dighton. He was born 58 years ago in Taunton, the son of Rita L. (Boivin) Bedard and the late Philip H. Bedard. He was educated in Taunton, having graduated from Coyle High School, received his Associate’s Degree from Providence College, and was a Certified Occupational Baking instructor. Daniel was employed as Manager of Delivery Services for Eastside Marketplace in Providence for over 20 years. He was previously employed at the New Bedford Vocational High School as a Baking Instructor, and was formerly employed at both Taunton Nursing Home and Marian Manor as a Food Service Supervisor. An avid sports fan, Daniel also enjoyed cooking, listening to oldies, gardening and spending time with his family. He lovingly cared for his mother when she was at home. He was an attentive Dad who cared for and was very involved in his daughters’ activities. He loved entertaining his family as Santa at Christmas. Daniel was a former communicant of both St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton, and St. Nicholas of Myra Parish in No. Dighton. In addition to his mother, his companion and his former wife, he leaves: 2 daughters: Bethany-April Bedard of Nashville, TN. and Heidi-Carolyn Bedard of No. Dighton; 4 brothers: Deacon Philip E. Bedard and his wife, Alice, Gerard J. Bedard and his wife, Janet, Paul L. Bedard, and Robert T. Bedard and his wife, Joyce, all of Taunton; 3 sisters: Lucille R. Morris and her husband, Gordon of Berkley, Annette M. Campbell and her husband, David of Lakeville, and Denise A. Hartwell and her husband, Dennis of Taunton; 3 godchildren: Melissa Reeve, Heather and Ray Chamberland; his aunt: Maria Donnelly of Taunton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Daniel was also the brother of the late David P. Bedard. Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, July 25 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery, Rehoboth. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. EAST TAUNTON – Kacie E. Palm, 14, of East Taunton, died unexpectedly at Morton Hospital on July 17, 2014. Born in Weymouth, she was the daughter of Steven R. and Kerry A. (Jones) Palm. Raised in East Taunton, Kacie attended Taunton schools and was scheduled to begin her freshman year at Bristol-Plymouth Regional High School in the fall. Kacie was a sweet loving girl with a fond interest in all kinds of music. Her love of animals was well known to those who knew her. Kacie had many friends and cherished those good relationships. In addition to her parents, she leaves her brother, Cameron R. Palm of East Taunton; her paternal grandparents, Richard and Jean Palm of Brockton; three uncles, Scott A. Wedge of Lakeville, Wayne Palm and his wife Sharon of Raynham, and George Jones, III of East Bridgewater; and three cousins, Scott, Dylan, and Jakob Wedge. Kacie was also the granddaughter of the late George and Patricia Jones, and the niece of the late Lisa M. Wedge. Mr. David R. Cobb, of Taunton, died Monday, July 21 in Taunton Nursing Home following a period of failing health. He was the former husband of Marcia A. (Card) Cobb of Florida. He was born 84 years ago in Wakefield, the son of the late Herbert and Mabel (Bohls) Cobb. He was educated in Hingham and had been a Taunton resident for the past 20 years. Prior to his retirement, he was a self-employed sign painter in the Taunton area for 20 years. Many of his customers referred to David as “Rembrandt.” He previously owned and operated The Galley Restaurant in Cohasset for 10 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War era with the 1801st AACS Group at Rhein Main AFB in Germany and at Hamilton AFB in California. David enjoyed spending time with his family, cooking, and was an avid New England Patriots fan. He leaves: 2 sons: Darryl Cobb of Florida, and Christopher Cobb of Taunton; 1 daughter: Belinda Brendler and her husband Larry of Florida, 3 grandchildren, 1 great granddaughter, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Estella M. (Bourget) Coy, of Taunton, died Thursday, July 24 in Morton Hospital following a lengthy illness. She was born 64 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Donat and Esther (Shepard) Bourget. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong area resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as an L.P.N. for 20 years. Estella was a volunteer for Bristol Elder Services. She enjoyed playing bingo, attending charitable events and family get-togethers. She leaves: 1 daughter: Jamie M. Coy and her fiancé, Andrew R. Whitacre of Milford; 4 brothers: Donat Bourget of Georgia, William Bourget of Florida, Michael Bourget of Fall River, and Christopher Bourget and his wife, Joanne of Taunton; 7 sisters: Cherie Correia and her husband, Armand of Taunton, Esther Phipps of Freetown, Andrea Gendron and her husband, Tom of No.Dighton, Melanie Duhaine and her husband, Bill of Taunton, Mary Bourget and her husband, William Schuttauf of Monson, Juliette Cleveland and her husband, Herbert of Raynham, and Lisa Pierce of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Blanche O. (Frappier) Menard, of Raynham, died Friday, July 25 in Morton Hospital following a brief illness. She was born 86 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Arthur N. and Olive B. (Nolette) Frappier. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former St. Jacques Grammar School and St. Mary’s High School. Blanche also graduated from the former American Dental School in New Bedford, and was employed as a Dental Assistant for F.B. Hamel, DDS in Taunton for several years. Prior to her retirement in 1985, she was the Administrative Assistant to the Vice President of Personnel at Whiting and Davis, Inc., Attleboro. She was previously employed as Personnel Administrator at Dante’s in Attleboro. She was Neighborhood Chairwoman for the Plymouth Bay Girl Scouts of America, and was awarded the Marian Medal in 1968 for being instrumental in forming the Girl Scout movement in the Whittenton area. Blanche was a member of the St. Jude the Apostle Womens Guild, a 50 year member of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste Conseil No. 53, and was captain of the St. Jacques Drum Corps Majorettes in her youth. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. She leaves: four daughters: Sandra A. Menard of Las Vegas, Nev., Sharon A. Menard of Berkley, Susan A. Slivinski and her husband Paul of Taunton, and Sheila A. Abreau and her husband, Anthony of Taunton; three grandsons: Anthony Abreau of Las Vegas, Nev., Tyler Abreau of Boston, and Steven Slivinski of Taunton; four granddaughters: Crystal DeArruda of E.Taunton, Andrea Watkins, of Calif., Jenna Slivinski and Paige Abreau, both of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the twin sister of the late Lillian White of Taunton. Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Tuesday, July 29 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. In Taunton, July 26, 2014 Julia M. Bird, Age 101 passed away in Morton Hospital. Julia was the wife of the late Arthur Bird. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Charles and Jennie (Highfield) O’Connor. Julia was a lifetime resident of Taunton. She was employed at the former Morton Laundry in Taunton. Julia enjoyed going to Primetime Daycare in Dighton and visiting Foxwoods and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings Ruth Lounsbury, Margaret Donovan and Monica Bird. Julia also leaves her nieces and nephews Richard and Hope Bird of Taunton, Yvonne Bird, Kathy and William Donovan and the late Jack Bird. Julia also leaves several Great nieces & nephews. In East Bridgewater, July 25, 2014 Alice M. Henry, Age 100, passed away in Westview Rest Home following a period of declining health. Alice was the wife of the late William F. Henry. She was born in Tiverton, R.I., the daughter of the late Barnaby and Marie (Mercier) Jean. Alice was a resident of Taunton until her health declined, living on State St. in Whittenton. She was employed as a nurse’s aide for both Taunton State and the former Paul E. Dever State School. Alice was a member of the Oakland Grange and the East Taunton Seniors. She enjoyed dancing and playing bingo and above all was devoted and loving mother who cherished her children and grandchildren. Alice was one of thirteen children, and is survived by her sister Imelda Waite of Tiverton and her late siblings Rose, Laura, Marie, Margaret, Alfred, Phillip, Henry, Homer, Ernest and William. Alice leaves her loving children Raymond Henry of CA, William Henry of CA, Priscilla Ferreira of Taunton, Cheryl Leary of Middleboro and the late Joan M. Henry and Sgt. James Henry who died serving his country in Vietnam. Alice also leaves her grandchildren Michael Ferreira, Leslie Leitao, Raymond Henry Jr., Mark Henry, Alfred Craven, James Craven, Heather McCarthy, Colleen Cioni and Babette Melee. A graveside service will be held at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton on Tuesday, July 29th at 10 am. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. TAUNTON – Sr. Maria Isabel Franco of the Sisters of St. Dorothy, died at Marian Manor on July 27, 2014. She was 99. Born in São Cristovão do Douro, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Adelino and Maria (Amalia) Julio. She joined the Sisters of St. Dorothy in 1936. Sr. Franco was educated in Portugal and the United States and received degrees in English and French. She taught school in the Diocese of Providence and the Diocese of Fall River for many years, and was an instructor of Portuguese at Roger Williams and Vanderbilt University. She resided at Villa Fatima for twenty years before moving to Marian Manor. Survivors include her Religious Sisters and several nieces and nephews who live in Portugal. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Anthony Church on School Street in Taunton on Wednesday, July 30th at 11 a.m. Friends may visit at the church from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass. BERKLEY- Benjamin F. “Ben” Rose, husband of the late Shirley M. (Bernier) Rose, born October 2, 1921, died peacefully at the Life Care Center of Raynham on Aug. 1, 2014, following a period of failing health. He was 92. Born in Berkley, he was the son of the late Joseph and Zona (Peel) Rose. Ben was a lifelong resident of Berkley and graduated from New Bedford Vocational Technical High School. A WW II Veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, he had held the rank of Second Lieutenant. He later co-owned and operated Hadrose Builders and later Hadrose Well Drilling of Berkley, with his late business partner Stanley Hadro. He most enjoyed spending time at The American Legion, Post 121 of Berkley, where he was a lifetime member and Past Commander, a.k.a. “The Raffle Master”. Ben was an avid hunter, enjoyed snowmobiling, and was a flight instructor at the former Myricks and King’s airports for many years. Survivors include two sons, Benjamin F. Rose, Jr. and his wife Jeanette; Jeffrey J. Rose and his wife Gina, all of Berkley; a daughter, Sheila and her husband Herman M. Lopez, Jr. of Berkley; two brothers, Joseph Rose, Jr. and Patrick Rose, both of CA. Ben is survived by his six grandchildren; Laurie Sirois, Scott Rose, Derek Rose, Lonnie Lopez, Krystal Cote, and Zachary Rose, all of whom he cherished. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late James, Harold, Kenneth, Eugene and Robert Rose. Funeral Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Aug. 7th at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Fox Cemetery in Berkley. Raised and educated in East Hampton, he later worked as a self-employed truck driver. Mr. Sartre had lived in the Taunton area for the past ten years. Survivors include a son, Daniel J. Bonds of Brockton and Jessica Sartre of Raynham; three brothers, Raymond Sartre of Braintree, and David and Merton Sartre, both of CT; three sisters, Gloria Barressi of Mansfield, Betty Wolongevicz of Braintree, Ellen Quinn of Middleton, CT; an aunt, Sarah Errico; eleven grandchildren: ten great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late William R. Sartre. Born in Gadsden, Alabama, Mrs. Velozo was the daughter of the late John and Dovie (Brooks) Burchell. She moved to the Taunton area with her family at the age of nine, and was educated in Taunton schools. Mrs. Velozo was employed at the former Paul A. Dever School for many years and was a Certified Nurse’s Assistant prior to retiring several years ago. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading, camping and bingo. Survivors include three sons, Michael Velozo and his wife Isabel of Taunton, stepson Edwin Veloza and his wife Pauline of Jacksonville, FL, and stepson Ronald Velozo and his wife Judy of Somerset; two daughters, Frances (Velozo) Berry and her husband Harry of Raynham and Donna (Velozo) Hubert of Taunton; a brother, Robert Burchell of Raynham; a sister, Nancy Burchell of Raynham; ten grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one on the way; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Vivian Enos, and Roy (Sam) and John Burchell. Born in Madeira Island, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Edmundo da Paixao and Gabriela (Goncalves) Bettencourt. A resident of the Taunton area since 1978, Mrs. da Silva was employed by Texas Instruments for many years before retiring in 1999 due to illness. Survivors include five sons, Edmundo J. da Silva of Madeira, Americo da Silva of Taunton, Jose X. da Silva of Norton, Renato and Jose R. da Silva, both of Taunton; three daughters, Maria Elizaete Pereira of Madeira, Lina NoBrega and Sonia Garcia both of Taunton; three sisters, Gabriela Ferreira and Odilia Rodrigues, both of Taunton and Maria Jose Estevao of Madeira; sixteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. TAUNTON – Mary (Martins) Fernandes, wife of the late Joseph Fernandes, died at Taunton Nursing Home on Aug. 4, 2014. She was 98. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Andrade Estrella) Martins. Mrs. Fernandes was educated in Taunton schools, and later worked as a cook at the Bristol County Agricultural High School. She was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and bowling. Survivors include two sons, Joseph Fernandes, III and his wife Donna of Dighton, and John Fernandes and his wife Andrea of Long Island, NY; two daughters, Mary Fernandes of Moorpark, CA and Debra Ann Guedry and her husband Fred of New Roads, LA; her daughter-in-law and special care giver Paula Fernandes, wife of the late James Fernandes; a sister, Evelyn Faria and her husband Joseph of Taunton; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Alfred, Joseph, Manuel and Anthony Martin. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church on Monday, Aug. 11th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Rehoboth. Mr. Frederick W. Abbott, a resident of Medford since 1965 and beloved husband of Mary G. (Brown), died at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford on Tuesday morning, August 5, 2014. He was 89 years old. Born in Taunton, Massachusetts, on November 19, 1924, Fred was the son of the late John and Helen T. (Fagan) Abbott and the devoted brother of the late John L. Abbott and the late Grace Agnes Boll. Besides his beloved wife, Mary, he will be missed by his loving daughters and their families — Helen A. and her husband Robert M. Simmons of Colorado Springs, CO, formerly of Wakefield, Audrey S. and her husband Paul S. Abate of Chelsea and Dorothy M. and her husband Frank E. Seamster of Medford; five grandchildren – Andrew Simmons, Stephanie Simmons Walsh and her husband, Michael, Kevin and Owen Seamster and Alicia Abate; and one great grandson — Dylan. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews. Raised in Boston and Dorchester, Fred served as Class President of the Hyde Park High School, class of 1942. Fred was a WWII US Marine Corps veteran, entering the service on December 10, 1942. After boot camp, he was a rifle range instructor at Parris Island and Camp Lejeune, NC. As a proud member of the 29th Marines, Sixth Marine Division, he fought on Okinawa. Fred received his honorable discharge on November 3, 1945 and was a Disabled American Veteran. Fred attended the University of Massachusetts at Ft. Devens. He transferred to the University of Montana and received his degree in 1950. Fred loved the wide open spaces of Montana and stayed for two years after graduation, teaching high school English in the town of Plains. Returning to Boston, Fred worked in industrial equipment sales for many years before retiring from the US Postal Service after 20 years of service. Fred was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph Church in Medford and sang in the church choir. He was Past President of the Medford Plan E Civic Association and lovingly referred to as the “Mayor of Woodland Ave”, where he lived for 34 years. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 13 from 4 to 8 PM at the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 29 Governors Avenue, Medford. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 14 at 10 AM in St. Joseph Church, 118 High Street, Medford. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be held in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
