Melvina M. Emerson, 90, of Burt Street, Taunton, MA, died on Friday May 30, 2014 at Longmeadow Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late David L. Emerson of 53 years. Born in Providence, a daughter of the late John and Eva Mazika who came to the United States from Lithuania, she had lived in Taunton since 1950. Mrs. Emerson was a passionate horticulturist and spent many hours tending to her African Violets, Christmas cacti, crocuses, creeping phlox, and iris. She loved sunbathing, collecting beach glass along the Rhode Island shore, taking the bus to Providence, shopping at the old Outlet Department Store, making grape jelly and raspberry jam for Christmas presents, creating flower arrangements, and taking care of her many pets. She was an avid skier, often at North Conway, New Hampshire in her youth, later on the gentle golf course hills near her home, and met her husband on an Appalachian Mountain Club ski trip. After graduating from Mt Pleasant High School in Providence in 1942, Mrs. Emerson worked for Atlantic Chemical Company prior to her marriage and relocation to Taunton in 1950. She was a Sunday school teacher and longtime member of the Rehoboth Congregational Church, and in her later years devoted much of her time to biblical study with groups at the LaSalette Shrine. She was also a member of the Taunton Garden Club. She leaves a daughter, Judith A. Emerson of Taunton, a son, Robert D. Emerson of Hopkinton, MA and three granddaughters. She was the sister of the late Ann Netsel and Mary Bain. Calling hours will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton on Thursday June 5th from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. A memorial service will be held Friday June 6th at 11:00AM at the Rehoboth Congregational Church, 139 Bay State Road, Rehoboth, MA. TAUNTON – Helvio “Al” Silveira, loving companion of Lisa L. Gosling, died at his Taunton home on May 31, 2014 after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma (Leukemia). He was 47. Born in Flores, Azores, he was the son of Armando and Maria F. (Resendes) Silveira of Taunton. Al graduated from Taunton High School in 1985, received a B.S. Degree in Criminal Justice in 2003, and his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration in 2004 from Western N.E. University. He was employed with the Taunton Police Dept. for nineteen years, where he received three medals of merit for his courageous acts. He was a founding member of the Taunton Police Department Honor Guard, and brought them to several national championships earning them several national awards. He was also employed by the Massachusetts Criminal Justice Training Council where he served as an instructor for many years at the Plymouth Police Academy. Prior to his employment with the Taunton Police Dept., he was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Correction for eight years. Al was the founding member of the band “Universe” a locally well-known band for eighteen years. He was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church. In addition to his companion and parents, he leaves a son, Nicholas A. Silveira of East Taunton; a daughter, Taylor M. Silveira of Taunton; a brother, Nelson A. Silveira of Taunton; a sister, Helvia M. Melo of Taunton; a niece, Kaylyn Silveira; a nephew, Evan Silveira; his companion’s daughters, Krista and Rachael Murray, both of Taunton; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, June 7th at 8:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mr. Edward M. Lombardi, Sr., of Taunton, died Wednesday, June 4 in the Golden Living Center – Wedgemere, following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Elinor (McLean) Lombardi. He was born 83 years ago in Providence, R.I., the son of the late James and Adele (Motta) Lombardi. He was educated in Rhode Island and had been a Taunton resident for the past 57 years. Prior to his retirement, Edward had been employed as a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Rhode Island for over 30 years. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean War era. In addition to his wife, he leaves: 3 sons: Edward M. Lombardi, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne of Taunton, Randy P. Lombardi and Gary J. Lombardi, both of East Taunton; 2 brothers: James Lombardi Jr. and Robert Lombardi, both of Rhode Island. 7 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In Taunton, June 3, 2014 Russell A. Davis, Age 84, passed away peacefully in Longmeadow Nursing Home following a lengthy illness. Russell was the loving husband of his late wife Jeanne (Allen) Davis. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Arthur & Gladys (Macumber) Davis. Russell attended Taunton schools. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Air Force. Russell was a tool maker and worked at Texas Instruments in Attleboro until his retirement in 1997. He enjoyed scratch tickets, the dog track and spending time with his family. Russell leaves his son Russell G. Davis and his wife Sherri of Taunton. His sister in law Margaret Peg Davis of Taunton. He was preceded in death by his siblings Merrill, Kenneth and Sheldon Davis. He was also the close friend of the late Daniel Nunes. Russell also leaves several nephews. A funeral home service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA on Monday, June 9th at 12 pm. Mary was born in Scranton, PA, and has resided in Taunton for over thirty years. She was a member of Christ Community Church in East Taunton. TAUNTON – Angel Colon, a Taunton resident since 1989, died at the Golden Living Center Wedgemere on May 31, 2014. He was 79. Born and raised in Puerto Rico, he was the son of the late Jose and Gerarda (Vega) Colon. A resident of New York for many years, Mr. Colon was a communicant of Taunton’s St. Mary’s Church. With a fondness for music, Angel enjoyed playing the guitar and singing, and will be remembered for his religious nature. His survivors include a brother, Ramon Montijo of Puerto Rico; four sisters, Sixta Colon, Efigenia Montijo and Teresa Montijo, all of Puerto Rico, and Luz Palmira Montijo of FL; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the sister of the late Angela Colon. Melissa was formerly employed as a sales clerk for the Christmas Tree Shops and, more recently, was a homemaker, caring for her family and her pets. Born in North Dighton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (Morris) Morris. Mrs. Tatro was raised in North Dighton and attended Dighton schools. Employed by Texas Instruments for many years, she retired in 1987. In her spare time, Theresa enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting, sewing and shopping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family. Survivors include a son, Charles A. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Lewis and Mary (Frizado) Martin. A 1949 graduate of Taunton High School, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. A retired machinist, Mr. Martin co-owned and operated the former Martin Machine and Design, and owned and operated the former Taunton Lawn and Garden for many years. In his spare time, he enjoyed custom woodworking, gardening, cooking and photography. In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Tom L. Martin of Taunton, and David F. Martin of Exton, PA; two daughters, Susan L. Martin of Acton, and Nancy J. Martin of Berkley; a brother, Donald Martin of Berkley; a sister, Mary Gravel of Taunton; three grandchildren, Tom Martin, Jr. of Ft. Hood, TX, Erin Martin of PA, and Colleen Martin of NY; three great grandchildren, Tom Martin, III, and Cole and Nicole Martin; and several nieces and nephews. TAUNTON – Evelyn M. (Santos) Abreau of Taunton, wife of the late George Abreau, Jr., died at Longmeadow of Taunton on June 6, 2014. She was 89. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late William and Helena (Vincent) Santos. Raised and educated in Taunton, Mrs. Abreau was a homemaker for most of her adult life. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church and enjoyed cooking, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include a son, George Abreau, III and his wife Mary of Raynham; four grandchildren, Laurie Barlow and her husband Michael of Lakeville, Robert Abreau and his wife Mary of Lakeville, Michaela Stone and her husband Robert of Texas, and Heather Coelho of Taunton; five great grandchildren, Adam Barlow, Ryan Abreau and Kaitlyn Abreau, all of Lakeville, and Kristine and Nicholas Coelho, both of Taunton; a sister, Eleanor Berube of Taunton; and a niece. Louise E. Reynolds (Pratt) of Taunton passed away on June 7, 2014 at the Taunton Nursing Home. She was 97 years old. She was the loving wife of the late Raymond K. Reynolds. She was the daughter of the late Samuel & Margaret (McCullum) Pratt, and mother of Judith Temko of Florida, Jane Wagner of New Bedford, and the late Steven P. Reynolds and Harriet Reynolds. She was the sister of the late Ruth Walker. She is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Louise enjoyed many winters in North Fort Myers, Florida after running Old Colony Wares Gift Shop for 8 years. She graduated Taunton High School Class of 1934. She also worked as a secretary for Revere Copper in New Bedford. She was fortunate to have been married for 63 years. She was a long time member of the Winthrop Street Baptist Church in Taunton. Herondina was the wife of the late Anthony Lema Sr. She was born in Fall River, the daughter of the late Joseph & Marie (Duarte) Albernaz. Herondina has resided in Taunton for the past 70 years. She attended schools in Rehoboth and worked at the former Swank Co, Eureka Co and Fazio Co. in Berkley. Herondina enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, word search and cherished her time with family. She is survived by her children Alice Ferreira and her husband Joseph of Raynham and Anthony Lema Jr. and his wife Jerilynn of Taunton. She also leaves her five loving grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Herondina was preceded in death by her two sisters Charlotte Gonsalves and Evangelina Santos both of Rehoboth. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel and Louise (Medeiros) Leanues. Raised and educated in Taunton, he attended Taunton schools and later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed as a group leader by Texas Instruments, where he worked for twenty-five years. Well known for his ballroom dancing skills, he also enjoyed fishing. In addition to his wife, he leaves two daughters, Judy Goulart and Kendra Leanues, both of East Taunton; three brothers, Kenneth and Raymond Leanues, both of Taunton, and Robert Leanues of Brockton; two sisters, Dorothy Carreiro of Taunton and Evelyn McQuade of Raynham; five grandchildren, Hiliary and Adam Goulart, both of NH, Jesse Leanues of FL, and Sara and Shaun Leanues, both of Taunton; three great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late Donald W. Leanues and brother of the late Joanne Leanues. She was born 91 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Donat and Eugenie (Mador) Gaouette. She was educated in Taunton and was a lifelong city resident. She enjoyed playing bingo and watching game shows on television. She was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton. She leaves: 1 niece: Pauline Banks of Taunton, and several cousins including Thomas Copeland, Jean Arikian, Louise Rose, Raymond Emond and Roger Emond, all of Taunton. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was employed as a motor vehicle inspector and supervisor for the Registry of Motor Vehicles. Vincent was a member of the Taunton Elk’s #150, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and working on heavy equipment and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his children James Webster and his wife JoAnn of Dighton and Paula Tosca and her husband Jeffrey of Stoughton. He also leaves his grandchildren James Webster Jr. of Dighton and Jeffrey Tosca Jr. of Marian. Vincent was preceded in death by his siblings Donald Webster and Leona Hagan. A funeral home service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday at 10 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday from 5-8 pm. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. TAUNTON – Kathleen (Rose) Teixeira, wife of the late Joaquim “Jack” Teixeira, died at her Taunton home on June 24, 2014. She was 67. Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Mary (DuPont) Rose. She was a lifelong Taunton resident. Kathy was employed by the former Robinson Curtain Factory and the former Mansfield Chocolate Factory for many years. A member of the American Cancer Society of Greater New Bedford and Taunton, she co-chaired the Service Committee and Board of Directors and was a fund-raising volunteer. For many years, Kathy ran a volunteer staffed daycare center, Kathleen’s Daycare at the former Pondville Hospital. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. Survivors include two daughters, Jacqueline Andrade and Anne Marie Teixeira, both of Taunton; four brothers, Manuel, Robert, and William Rose, all of Taunton, and Michael Rose of Swansea; a sister, Janet Rose of Taunton; an uncle, Al Eugenio of Taunton; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also cherished companion of the late Edward Rietzel and was predeceased by two grandchildren. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, June 28th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
