NORTH DIGHTON – Helen L. (Sousa) Ready, 96, longtime resident of North Dighton, died at Morton Hospital on Jan. 24, 2014.
She was the wife of the late Edwin W. Ready.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Louise (Grassie) Sousa.
A 1934 graduate of Taunton High School, Helen later moved to Boston where she lived for many years.
A homemaker for most of her adult life, she was a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church.
A former civil defense volunteer and poll worker for the city of Taunton, Mrs. Ready was a member of the committee instrumental in founding the former SMU in Dartmouth.
She was a former Girl Scout leader, both in Boston and North Dighton, and in her spare time, enjoyed ceramics, gardening, crossword puzzles, playing cards and bird watching.
Survivors include a son, James Ready and his wife Joan of Dighton; two daughters, Ethel Louise Ready of North Dighton, with whom she resided, and Kathleen M. Ready of Hinsdale, NH; eleven grandchildren; many great grandchildren, many great great grandchildren; and a nephew.
She was also the sister of the late Genevieve O’Connell.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church on Tuesday, Jan. 28th at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Calling Hours are respectfully omitted.

Mrs. Lea R. (Simard) Kruczek, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Sunday, January 26 in Morton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Felix Kruczek. She was born 91 years ago in Quebec, Canada, and immigrated to Taunton as a child. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former Leonard School, and had attended Taunton High School. Lea had been a city resident for most of her life. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a seamstress for the former Whittenton Garment Company for many years. She was a member of the former Msgr. Coyle High School Mothers Club, and the former St. Jacques Church Womens Guild. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and knitting. She was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Church in Taunton.
In addition to her husband, she leaves: 1 son: John Kruczek and his wife, Kathleen of Johnston, R.I.; a daughter-in-law: Wendy Kruczek of Berkley; 4 grandchildren: Dr. Kimberly Kruczek, Kelly Kruczek, Scott Kruczek and Bonnie Forsberg; 2 great grandchildren: Julie and Jacob Forsberg, and several nieces and nephews. Lea was also the mother of the late Stephen Kruczek.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Thursday, January 30 at 11:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 12:00 Noon. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Visiting Hour will precede the funeral, Thursday, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. James Richard Yost, God called “Jim” home today, January 27, 2014, surrounded by his beloved wife, Bette, and family after a period of failing health. Jim and his wife lived for the past 10 years in the Shangri-la “Oak Point,” Middleboro MA. Jim was the son of Charles and Dora (Lane) Yost. He was born in Oreton, VA in 1933. Jim is survived by his darling wife, Elizabeth “Bette” Yost, his five children, James Jr. and his wife Susan of Bridgewater, Ma, William Yost and his wife Ellen of Charlotte, NC, John Yost and his wife Mary of Middleboro, MA, Janice Yost of Somersworth, NH and Matthew Yost of Brockton, MA. His two beloved step-sons, Michael Thomas and his wife Katia of Dighton, MA and Stephen Thomas of Middleboro, MA. His sisters, Elizabeth Lane, Mrs. Shirley Harris and Eula Hall and her husband Jim, all of Big Stone Gap, VA. Jim is also a grandfather to eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Jim was an Army Korean War Veteran 1949-1951 and Air Force Veteran 1952-1958, and was a member of the Oak Point Veterans’ Association, Disabled Veterans, American Legion and the US Army 2nd Division. Jim retired in 1989, as a Manager of the Employee Assistance
Program, US Postal Service, Boston, MA. Jim was an avid golfer, pool player, and “karaoke” singer and loved to tell jokes at all Oak Point functions. Jim was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Middleboro, MA. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday, January 31st at 10 am. In Brockton, January 27, 2014 John R. Murphy Age 51 passed away following a brief illness. He was born in Taunton, the son of Arthur & Anne Marie (Grundy) Murphy of Taunton. John has been a lifelong of Taunton. He was a graduate of Bristol Plymouth High School. John was employed as an auto mechanic and also owned Murphco Co., where he did engine building. John enjoyed drag racing, antique car shows and working on his 1951 and 1953 Chevys. John also leaves his loving companion Barbara Hayes of Easton. His brothers Arthur James III and Kevin Paul Murphy both of Taunton and the late Dennis Patrick Murphy. He also leaves his Aunt Marita Fair Murphy of Taunton. TAUNTON – Mary (Medeiros) Machado, wife of the late Amilcar Machado, died at Marian Manor on Jan. 27, 2014.
She was 95.
Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Antone J. and Rosalina (Mendonca) Medeiros.
Raised and educated in the Azores, she moved to Taunton in 1956.
Mrs. Machado was employed by the former John Lucey and Corcoran Shoe Companies, and later worked for the former Paul Dever State School.
She retired many years ago.
A communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, and member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, she enjoyed Bingo; and spent many hours crocheting.
Survivors include a son, Anthony E. Machado and his wife Dianne of Taunton; two daughters, Fatima Rodrigues of Taunton, and Mary E. Medeiros and her husband Joaquim of Dighton; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; two nieces and a nephew.
She was also the mother of the late Clementine Cardoza and the sister of the late Angelo Medeiros.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Jan. 30th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

TAUNTON – Harriet Anne Viveiros, 75, died at her Taunton home on Jan. 26, 2014.
A lifelong Taunton resident, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Mello) Viveiros.
Harriet attended Taunton schools and graduated from Taunton High School in 1957.
She was employed by Rand McNally for many years, retiring in 2002.
An avid sports fan, Harriet enjoyed casino excursions and playing Bingo.
Survivors include two sisters, Lucille Laranjo and her husband Albert of Taunton and Florida, and Linda Reed of Helena Montana; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late John “Jackie” Viveiros, Mildred Viveiros and Florence Martin.
A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, April 12th from 1 to 3 p.m.

In Boston, January 18, 2014 Nancy Furtado died at Brigham and Woman’s Hospital in Boston after a long battle with brain cancer. Nancy was born in New Bedford and was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1972. When Nancy was young she placed in speed walking races. She waitressed at the Root Beer Stand and Tanes Restaurant. Nancy loved dancing and walking the bird sanctuary. Her hobbies were watching British Mysteries and was a lover of all animals. Her giggles were contagious and her smile brought happiness to all she touched. She also enjoyed vanning with her friends and was a member of New England Van Council. Currently, he was employed by the Dealer Tire Company of Mansfield. Efrain will be remembered for being a hard- working, family oriented man. He was funny, loving, and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was known for being outspoken, and always making fun. Clara Fitzgerald passed away at Life Care Center of Raynham on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at the age of 85 after losing her battle with cancer. Clara was the daughter of the late Lucy and Elmore Berry of Taunton. She was predeceased by her late husband Manuel Mello. Clara is survived by two sons, William Mello of New Hampshire and Richard Mello of MA. She is also survived by her siblings, William Berry of Taunton, Patricia Erler and her husband Terry of Missouri, Mary Rose of Dighton and Eleanor Berry of Taunton. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. Clara worked at Swanks in Taunton for over thirty six years and made many dear friends there. Her last residence was at the Massasoit housing in East Taunton where she also made some wonderful friends. Clara was an avid lighthouse collector and had many of every kind and size imaginable. She also enjoyed weekend’s trips to visit coastal lighthouses, especially along the coast of Maine. She also went on many whale watching trips, and was happiest when near the ocean. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Blanche (Mackiewicz) Silvia. Mrs. Mosher was a lifelong Taunton resident and a 1959 graduate of Taunton High School. Employed by the former Mason Box Company for over 40 years, she retired in 2005. A member of the Weir Senior Citizens, she enjoyed Yoga, Bingo, excursions to Twin Rivers, and dining out. Survivors include two sons, Timothy F. Mosher and his wife Maureen and Mark W. Mosher and his wife Marybeth; a daughter, Beth Ann Mosher and her companion Scott Moles; a sister, Frances E. Davenport; three grandchildren, Tyler, Courtney and Caitlin Mosher; her best friends, Helen Laranjo and Barbara Keough; two nieces; and several cousins. She was also the sister of the late Kathleen Flynn and Lori Ann Silvia. She was born 95 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Peter and Antonia (Sosenko) Salamon. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated with High Honors from Taunton High School, Class of 1936, and had also attended the former Bristol County Business College in Taunton. She was a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as Principal Clerk at the former Paul A. Dever State School for 20 years. Eva was previously employed as a secretary at the former General Electric in Taunton for 19 years. She was active and donated to several area charitable associations. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and current events. She was a member of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church in Cumberland, R.I. She leaves: 3 brothers: William Salamon of No. Kingstown, R.I., Paul Salamon of Taunton, and Peter Salamon and his wife, Mary of Taunton; 1 sister: Helen Booth of Taunton; her sister-in-law: Helen (Strojny) Salamon, and 18 nieces and nephews. Eva was also the sister of the late Anna Ladebauche, Mary Marney, Esther Costa, Julia Salamon, Nicholas Salamon and John Salamon and his wife, Rita. A Funeral Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Monday, March 3 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Visiting Hour will precede the Service, Monday, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M.
