TAUNTON – Maria C. (Silva) Simoes, wife of the late Jose F. Simoes, died at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston, on Sept. 10, 2013.
She was 75.
Born, raised, and educated in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Domingos and Maria Odilia (Serodio) Silva.
After moving to the area in 1982, Mrs. Simoes was employed by Walk-Over Shoes in Bridgewater for several years before retiring many years ago.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Nelia Simoes Marquez of RI, Ana Paula Simoes, Dina M. Simoes and Gerusa Simoes-Johnson, all of Taunton; four sons, Luis A. Simoes, Emanuel Simoes, Joao S. Simoes and Joseph Simoes, all of Taunton; five sisters, Elzira Medeiros of RI, Conceicao Silva of Madeira, Maria Tristao of Terceira, Azores, Maria doCarmo and Fatima Silva Medeiros, both of St. Michael Azores; eleven grandchildren, Crystal, Luis, Jeffrey, Alexandria, Cameryn and Ethan Simoes; Andrew and Michael Marquez, Joshua Ventura, Joseph Vodden and Ilynd-Bree Simoes Johnson; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Simoes was also the sister of the late Emanuel Silva and Teresa Medeiros.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday Sept. 14th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 13th from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

In Taunton, September 7th, 2013. Grace E. Jordan (known by all who love her as Meemie) age 96, passed away in Morton Hospital following a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Grace was married to the love of her life the late Archie B. Jordan for 69 years. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late John Ellis Sr. and Elizabeth (Newton) Ellis. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. Grace and Archie ran a small restaurant for a few years, but, she was primarily a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking (especially her apple pies). She was an avid Red Sox fan. Above all, Meemie cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her loving daughter Shirley J. Sanborn and her late son in law W. Gerard Sanborn, and her late daughter Dorothy A. Byrne. She is also survived by her sisters Joanne DeLisle and her husband George, and Barbara Thompson. The late Dorothy Henriksen, and Margaret Hebert. Her late brothers John Jr., William and Robert Ellis. Grace is also survived by her three devoted granddaughters Kristen Garcia and her husband Gary, Stacey Waters and her husband Tom, and Kelley Pereira and her husband Rick, as well as her great-grandchildren Derek and Aubrey DiMarzio, Evan Garcia, Allison and Kayleigh Pereira. Grace also leaves her sister in-law Winnifred Ellis, several nieces, nephews and friends. A funeral home service will be held on Friday, September 13th, at 11:30am at the O’Keefe Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street Taunton Ma. 02780. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday from 5-8pm. Burial will be in Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton.

In Taunton, September 11, 2013 Elena Catherine Dennen, Age 85, passed away in the Life Care Center of Raynham following a lengthy period of failing health, while surrounded by her loving family. Elena was the wife of the late Robert J. Dennen. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Amedo & Fortunata (Palazzi) Alegi. Elena was a graduate of Taunton High School. She was a former communicant of the Annunciation of the Lord Church. Elena worked as a hairdresser and an assembler. Elena was a member of the Son’s of Italy and enjoyed yard sales, antiques and assisting with many civic and community organizations. Elena is survived by her loving children Alan R. Dennen, Robert A. Dennen both of Taunton, Timothy J. Dennen of Slana, Alaska and Susan M. Bradford of Sagamore. Her siblings Liberty Flannery, Prudence Smith and Ada Violette all of Taunton and her late brother Americo Alegi. Elena also leaves her grandchildren Jason Dennen of N.J., Layla Beale of FL., Heather Wakefield of Stoughton, Sheri Bradford of Weymouth, Seth Bradford of Pocasset, Hannah Dennen of Taunton, Kristen Bradford of Weymouth, Ian Dennen of Fall River and Kandace El of New Bedford. Elena also leaves her eight great grandchildren. She also leaves behind her special friend Kenneth Champagne of Raynham. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma 02780 on Monday, Sept. 16th at 10 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in the Annunciation of the Lord Church at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday from 4-7 pm. In Boston, September 11, 2013 Nelson W. Sherman Jr. Age 83 passed away suddenly by accident in Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston. He is survived by his wife Jean (Eames) Sherman of Taunton. Nelson was born in Lakeville, the son of the late Nelson Sherman Sr. & Ethelyn (Pittsley) Sherman. Nelson has resided in Taunton since 1951. He served his country during the Korean War in the U.S. Army. A graduate of Northeastern University, Nelson worked as an industrial engineer for the Samara Lighting Co. in Fall River and later was the owner of the Manger Christian Book Store in Taunton. Nelson was the founder and president of the Herring Runners Camping Group in Taunton. He was an active member of the Winthrop St. Baptist Church in Taunton, where he was the choir director and a deacon. Nelson also was a former member of the Bow Harrars Barbershop Quartet. Above all he cherished his time with his family and many close friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday, Sept. 16th from 4-7 pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma 02780 Funeral and Burial will be private at the request of the family. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21st at 11 am. at the Winthrop St. Baptist Church in Taunton to which all are invited. In Taunton, September 14, 2013 Lillian (Kszywienski) Slavick wife of the late Carl Slavick died at Morton Hospital in Taunton at the age of 87. Born in Taunton, Lillian was the daughter of the late John and Tekla (Swstock) Kszywienski. She was the sister of the late Mary Kszywienski Misuirski, Helen Kszywienski, Jenny Kszywienski, Stella Kszywienski Sabaitos and John Kszywienski. Lillian was educated in the Taunton Public Schools and then went to Saint Ann’s Nursing School where she became a registered nurse. She had worked at NYC Hospital and Paul A. Dever State School until deciding to be a stay at home mother. She was communicant of Holy Rosary Church and a member of the Polish American Citizens Club. She enjoyed reading, music and spending time with her family especially her four grandchildren. Lillian was the mother of Mary T. Slavick of Taunton and Karen (Slavick) Dawicki and her husband Stephen of Lakeville. Grandmother of Thomas, Rebecca, Sarah and Abigail Dawicki all of Lakeville. Aunt of many nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Rosary Church in Taunton Saturday, September 21st at 11 AM. Interment St Joseph Cemetery. Arrangements by the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton. TAUNTON – Mary G. (Dias) Webb, wife of the late Luke A. Webb, Sr., died at the Island Terrace in Lakeville, surrounded by her family on Sept. 14, 2013.
She was 98.
Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Alvitina (Gonsalves) Dias.
A Taunton resident for most of her life, Mrs. Webb moved to Lakeville three years ago.
A 1931 graduate of Taunton High School, she later graduated from the Lakeville Hospital School of Nursing.
During WW II, Mrs. Webb was employed by the War Department as a secretary at Camp Myles Standish in Taunton.
She was employed as an LPN by the Cape Cod & Island Community Health Center and Taunton State Hospital for over thirty years before retiring in 1979.
Upon her retirement, she was recognized by the Commonwealth of MA State Senate for her years of service and dedication.
In her spare time, Mrs. Webb was active in politics and enjoyed traveling, cooking and gardening.
She was a communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church.
Survivors include a son, Luke A. Webb, Jr. and his wife Evelyn of Taunton; a daughter, Rita A. Webb of Washington, DC; four granddaughters, Kim Webb of Taunton, Tracey Webb of FL, Voncia Costa of Taunton and Jennifer Milthaler of FL; and many nieces, nephews, great and great great nieces and nephews; and cousins.
She was also the sister of the late Peter, Arthur, Joseph and John Dias, Laura Duarte, Lola DaRosa and Rita Savoy.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday Sept. 20th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday Sept. 19th from 5 to 8 p.m.

Robert A. Finch, age 69, passed away at the South Shore Hospital on Wednesday September 18, 2013. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Ann (Giannone) Finch, his 4 children, Kelly Schwartz of Buchanan, MI, Carrie Finch of Marshfield, Gail Minichiello of Gorham, ME and Tracey Brock of Brockton. Bob also leaves 7 grandsons, Stephen Parsons, Zachary Kratzch, Tyler Parsons, Dillon Kratzch, Milo Saucier, Reid Minichiello and Thomas Brock. He is predeceased by his parents, Robert A. and Lois (Cummings) Finch.
Robert was born and grew up in Weymouth before moving to East Taunton 3 years ago. He was a Supervisor at General Motors for many years and Brady Enterprises for 8 years.
Bob loved riding his motorcycle, his trips to Aruba, swimming in his pool, and Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed feeding his squirrels and birds.
Memorial Visiting Hours will be held at the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) S. Weymouth on Saturday September 21 from 4 to 8 PM.

TAUNTON – Frank W. Mendes, husband of the late Edith I. (Petrie) Mendes, died at Morton Hospital on Sept. 18, 2013.
He was 90.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Frank V. and Joaquina “Mary” (Santos) Mendes.
Educated in Taunton and Dighton schools, he later served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
A retired Deputy Chief, he was a 30-year veteran of the Taunton fire department.
A life member of the VFW Post 611, Elks Lodge 150 and the Portuguese American Civic Club, Mr. Mendes was also a member of St. Vincent DePaul Society, and served in the US Army Reserves for 30 years.
He enjoyed Duckpin and Tenpin bowling, golfing, camping, playing cards and traveling.
A communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, Mr. Mendes is survived by a son, Frank W. Mendes, Jr. of Berkley; two daughters, Evelyn F. Patrick and her husband Fred of Taunton and Carolyn J. Rannacher of Berkley; a stepson, Stephen Madden and his wife Jean of Plymouth; two stepdaughters, Patricia J. Sweeney of Brockton and Kathleen A. Curran of Scituate; four brothers, Robert Mendes and his wife Lil, Charles Mendes and his wife Theresa, Richard Mendes and his wife Noreen, all of Taunton; two sisters, Jacqueline Charlwood and Joanne Nolette, both of Taunton; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the stepfather of the late Michael Madden, and the brother of the late William and Joseph Mendes.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday Sept. 23rd at 10:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation Of The Lord Church at 11:30 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday Sept. 22nd from 4 to 8 p.m.
Frank was instrumental in starting the Taunton Fire Department’s involvement with muscular dystrophy, therefore it is requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to MDA in his honor.

TAUNTON – Glenn A. “Dude” Titus, husband of the late Barbara A. (Silvia) Titus, died at Morton Hospital with his family by his side, on Sept. 18, 2013.
A Taunton resident since 1957, he was 76 years old.
Born in Norton, he was the son of the late Clifford and Alice (Hogan) Titus.
Mr. Titus was raised and educated in Norton and was a graduate of Norton High School.
Employed as the Sealer of Weights & Measures for the town of Plymouth for many years, he had previously worked for the former F.B. Rogers Silver Company of Taunton.
Mr. Titus enjoyed golfing, fishing, and yard sales; and was an avid antiques collector.
His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and his beloved Pekinese, “Precious P”.
Survivors include two sons, Glenn Titus and his wife Deborah of North Dighton, and Jeffrey Titus of Taunton; his daughter, Cheryl Titus of Taunton; two brothers, Francis Titus of Attleboro and Calvin Titus of Taunton; three grandchildren, Courtney, Jordan and Joshua Titus, all of North Dighton; sisters-in-law, Mary Draper and Jean O’Neil, both of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Clifford Titus, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, on Tuesday, Sept. 24th at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
The family will be receiving visitors at the funeral home between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., prior to the Services.

Bill was the beloved husband of Mary Elenor (Foley) Cronan. William was born in Taunton, the son of the late Edward J. & Josephine (Walsh) Cronan. Bill was a lifetime resident of Taunton. He was a retired First class stationary engineer for the University of MA in Dartmouth. Bill was a member of the Friends of the Taunton Public Library, the Freetown Historical Society and a past volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Bill enjoyed boxing, fishing, telling stories and family dinners. Bill is survived by his loving children William E. Cronan of Cape Coral, FL, Beth Ann Cronan of Taunton and James M. Cronan and his wife Paula Ferrisi Cronan of Weymouth. He leaves his sister Carolyn Cronan Crosby of North Conway, N.H. and his sister in law Margaret M. (Sparrow) Cronan and his late siblings Edward J. Cronan and Corline L. Cronan. Bill also leaves his grandchildren Kera A. Cronan and Liam E. Cronan. Mrs. Candace S. (McCue) Martin, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Monday, September 23 in Morton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Charles A. Martin. She was born 41 years ago in Anderson, Indiana, the daughter of George McCue of Holbrook, Ma. and Madeline (Lavoie) McCue of Lakeville, Ma. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former Cohannet Grammar School and the Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School. She was also a graduate of Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Candace was employed as a Rural Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for the past 8 years. She was a member of the Postal Workers Union. She loved movies, reading and baking.
In addition to her husband and parents, she leaves: 1 son: Robert Osburn of Taunton; 1 daughter: Corinne Osburn of Taunton; 1 brother: Raymond Judd of Taunton; 1 sister: Melody DeBairos and her husband, Tommy of So. Attleboro; her niece and nephew: Ariana and Jaime DeBairos both of So. Attleboro; her best friend: Diane Lambert of Taunton, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Jarvis will be laid to rest following a private graveside service in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne with Military Honors.

ST. CLOUD, FL – Harold David Hathaway, formerly of Taunton, died at the Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee, FL on Nov. 2, 2013.
He was 86.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Henry and Rachel May (Spearing) Hathaway.
Raised and educated in Taunton, he later served in the U.S. Navy during WW II.
Mr. Hathaway was subsequently employed as a correction officer for the Commonwealth of MA for twenty-two years, before retiring in 1984.
He was stationed at MCI, Norfolk.
Mr. Hathaway moved to Florida in 1991.
Survivors include a son, David H. Hathaway of West Bridgewater; a sister, Blanche Pioulet of Taunton; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Paul M. Hathaway.
Private graveside services were held at Mayflower Hill Cemetery in Taunton on Thursday, Nov. 7th.
Arrangements are by the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton.

Thomas “Tom” Lewis of Taunton, formerly of New Bedford passed away on November 7, 2013 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Brighton. Mr. Lewis was 74 years old. Tom was the loving husband of Renee Lewis of Taunton. He was the father of Donna Dutra of Crandall. TX, Linda Silva of New Bedford, Pamela Arsenault of Heartland, TX, Thomas Lewis, Jr. of New Bedford and the late Roberta Fratus. Tom is survived by 2 stepchildren. Mr. Lewis was a proud grandfather of 10 and a great grandfather of 6.
Tom was born on January 14, 1939 in New Bedford. He enjoyed working with his hands doing ceramics and fixing up vintage cars. Mr. Lewis was also talented in finished carpentry. He loved going on weekend getaways in New Hampshire. Tom will be loved and missed by all who knew him.
A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 11am on Friday November 15th at the Grace Church 133 School St. New Bedford, MA. Arrangements under the care of Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. Taunton, MA 02780, 508-821-7771.

Mrs. Lillian (Dion) Arruda, of Taunton, died Tuesday, November 12 in the Life Care Center of Raynham following a period of failing health. She was beloved wife of the late Arthur Arruda. She was born 86 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Adelard and Mary G. (Pacheco) Dion. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed in the Housekeeping Department of Taunton State Hospital for 20 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.
She leaves several nieces and nephews. Lillian was also the sister of the late George Dion, Larry Dion, Marjorie Souza and Geraldine Silvia.
A Funeral Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
