Miss Brenda L. Souza, of Crestview, Fla. and formerly of Taunton, died November 7 at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born 51 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Frances A. (Warchal) Souza, Jr. She was educated in Taunton and had been a Florida resident for the past 15 years. Brenda enjoyed nature, swimming and the Florida weather. She was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 brother: Samuel J. Souza, III and his wife, Sharon of Florida; 2 sisters: Donna Frates and her husband, David of Taunton, and Laurie Souza of Florida; a half-brother: Bruce Silvia of Florida, her loving companion: Charles Drake of Florida, several nieces, nephews, aunts and an uncle. Brenda was also the sister of the late Jean and Lisa Souza, aunt of the late Frances Souza, and granddaughter of the late Anita Warchal and Mildred Souza.
A Graveside Service will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, at a time and date to be announced. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.

Mr. Gregory J. Corliss, of Raynham, died Thursday, November 14 in Morton Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Brenda Carol (Gentry) Corliss. He was born 67 years ago in Fall River, the son of the late James D. and Carolyne M. (Jarvais) Corliss. He was educated in Taunton and had been an area resident for most of his life. He was a self-employed tool and die welder, having operated Reliable Welding, Inc. of Raynham for many years. Gregory was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Middleboro Sportsmens Club. He enjoyed boating and target shooting.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Darren P. Corliss of Taunton; 1 daughter: Melissa Corliss Couture of No.Conway, N.H.; 5 brothers: Norman P. Corliss and his wife, Donna of Vernon, Vt., Alvah D. Corliss and his wife, Judith of Taunton, Richard B. Corliss and his wife, Joanne of Venice, Fla., George S. Corliss and his wife, Terri of Taunton, and Leonard P. Corliss of Taunton; 1 sister: Carolyne E. Lang and her husband, Robert of Lakeville; 1 granddaughter: Olivia L. Couture, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gregory was also the brother of the late Thomas L. and James W. Corliss.
A Visitation will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, November 16, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. A Funeral Service will follow the Visitation, Saturday, at 7:00 P.M. Mr. Martin J. “Marty” Powers, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 14 in Morton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Margaret A. “Pegge” Powers. He was born 73 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Martin and Rose (Martin) Powers. A lifelong city resident, he was educated in Taunton and attended Bentley College in Waltham. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a State Auditor for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 30 years. Following his retirement, Marty assisted on services at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home for a number of years. He was a Life member of the Taunton Lodge of Elks, served on the Finance Committee of St. Jude the Apostle Parish, was a member of the A.A.R.P., a volunteer for the Special Olympics, and was a former Little League coach. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing and quahogging, spending time at Bay View in Bourne, and he especially loved sharing time with his grandchildren and attending all of their events. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Brian M. Powers and his wife, Flor of Saunderstown, R.I.; 2 sisters: Margaret M. Litzen and her husband, Roy of Raynham, and Mary E. Brothers and her husband, Alan of Taunton; 3 grandchildren: Andrea, Kevin and Ashley Powers, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, on Tuesday, November 19 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Mrs. Lucille I. (Arguin) Proulx, of Taunton, died Wednesday, November 13 at her residence following a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur J. Proulx. She was born 85 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Roseanna (Topping) Arguin. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed in Inspection and Packing at the former Whittenton Garment Company in Taunton for many years. Lucille enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
She leaves: 1 brother: Lucien Arguin of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Leopold, Edgar, Ralph, Roland “Jug” Arguin and Jeannette C. Arguin.

Mrs. Joan Ann (Brazil) Descoteaux, of North Dighton, died unexpectedly Friday, November 15 in Morton Hospital. She was the former wife of the late Henry Descoteaux. She was born 80 years ago in North Dighton, the daughter of the late Joseph and Caroline (Borges) Brazil, Jr. She was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong area resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Princess House, Inc. in North Dighton for 20 years. Joan was previously employed as a waitress at the former Gondola Restaurant in Taunton for over 30 years. She was a member of the Happy Hearts and the Weir Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed traveling and cruises, playing bingo, reading magazines, dancing and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Parish in North Dighton.
She leaves: 2 daughters: Debra Reynolds and her husband, Thomas of Centreville, Va. and Lori Romano and her husband Nico of St.Louis, Mo.; 1 brother: Robert Brazil of Dighton; 2 grandchildren: Donald and Hannah Groce, and several nieces and nephews.

Christine Elaine (Newhall) Westcoat, 63, lifelong resident of Taunton, MA passed away in Boston on November 18, 2013 with family by her side following a courageous but far too brief battle with cancer. Christine, daughter of the late Harold and Marion (Brady) Newhall and loving wife of the late James “Cricket” Westcoat, is survived by her son, Eliot Westcoat of Boston, MA, her daughter, Stacy Moreton, and her husband Donald and was the loving grandmother of Joseph and Cooper Moreton of Taunton. She was sister to the late William “Billy” Newhall and is survived by three brothers, Harold Newhall of Florida, Robert Newhall of East Taunton, Michael Newhall of South Yarmouth and three sisters, Margaret Neville of South Dartmouth, Geraldine Newhall and Rosemarie Newhall, both of Taunton, along with several nieces and nephews. Christine was educated in Taunton schools and graduated from Taunton High School. Christine was a communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton. For the last eight years, she worked alongside her daughter Stacy, operating a daycare business where she was loved by all of the children. Prior to her employment at the daycare, she fulfilled a longtime dream of opening her own craft store, The Corner Treasure Shoppe, in East Taunton. For several years before owning her own business, she was the Sales and Office Manager at Ad-A-Day Co. in Taunton. She enjoyed country music, baking and crafts, but most important to her was caring for her family and loved ones. Anybody who came in contact with her knew her to be a caring, thoughtful and kind person who put other’s needs before her own. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Friday, November 15th at 9 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Holy Family Church in East Taunton at 10 am. Relatives and friends are also invited to visiting hours on Thursday from 5-8 pm. In Taunton, November 17, 2013 Margaret Riendeau, Age 89 passed away in Morton Hospital following a brief illness. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband William Riendeau. She was born in Providence, RI, the daughter of the late Daniel & Constance (Heath) Dwyer. Margaret was educated in Providence and Taunton schools and graduated from Taunton High School. Margaret is a retired operator for the former AT&T Co. in Taunton. She was a member of the Pioneers Club, and enjoyed cooking, dancing, going to the beach and above all cherished her time with family. Margaret is survived by her three children, William Riendeau of RI, Margaret Slight of NC and Maureen Kesson of RI. She was preceded in death by her brother Jack Dwyer. Margaret leaves her four loving grandchildren. Funeral services are private at the request of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home in Taunton. Taunton Rosina (Souza) Craverio a Taunton resident passed away on Tuesday November 19, 2013 after a brief illness. She was 93 years of age. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel Craverio. She was born in Newport RI, daughter of the late Manuel and Antonia (Fortado) Souza. She worked at New Jersey Rubber for many years. She enjoyed cooking, yard work, crocheting, and most of all being with her family. She was the loving mother of four daughters Maria Arruda, Gilberta Vasconcelos, Maria Campos, Laura Ronan all of Taunton, She was the loving grandmother of eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, loving sister of John DeSouza of Taunton also the loving aunt of five nephews and two nieces. Her Funeral Services will be held at the Taunton Funeral Home Monday at 8:00am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church at 9:00am relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours will be Sunday from 5-7pm Burial will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

Mr. Christopher P. Rozen, of Riverside, R.I., died unexpectedly Monday, November 18 at his residence. He was born 36 years ago in East Providence, the son of the late Edward Rozen and the late Doris (Hennessey) Rozen. He was educated in Riverside and was a graduate of East Providence High School. Christopher was a longtime employee of the Stop and Shop Supermarket in Seekonk. He enjoyed listening to music and spending time at the pool where he lived. His family is deeply saddened by his passing.

TAUNTON – Nicholas J. Mota, son of Nelson P. Mota, Lt. TFD, and Robin L. (Hustus) Mota of Taunton, died of injuries sustained in an automobile accident early Saturday morning, Nov. 23, 2013.
He was 21.
Born in Taunton, he was a 2010 graduate of Bristol – Plymouth Regional Technical High School.
A member of the school’s wrestling team, Nicholas was a star competitor in his weight class.
He was currently employed by Bay State Sewage Disposal of Lakeville.
In his spare time, he enjoyed weight lifting, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Adam J. Mota of Taunton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was also the grandson of the late Julio and Maria (Couto) Mota and the late Elwin and Constance (Lincoln) Hustus.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Nov. 30th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.

A lifelong city resident, he was educated in Taunton, having graduated from the former Taunton Vocational High School, where he was Valedictorian of his graduating class. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a metal fabricator for Cumberland Welding in East Taunton for over 10 years. Joseph was previously employed at the former Taunton Engineering Company for over 20 years. He enjoyed fishing, woodcarving and painting.
He leaves: 1 son: Shawn Ohler and his wife Kristy of Taunton; 1 daughter: Joey-Lynne Clark and her husband James of East Taunton; 3 brothers: Larry Allen and his wife, Kathy of North Dighton, William Ohler and his wife, Claudia of Taunton, and Robert Ohler of Taunton; 1 sister: Amanda Souza of Taunton; 4 grandchildren: Madison Clark, Branden Ohler, Hannah-Marie Ohler and Tori Clark, and several nieces and nephews.

In Taunton, November 24, 2013 John Coelho, Age 91 passed away in Morton Hospital following a lengthy illness. John was the husband of the late Bernice (Weaver) Coelho. He was born in Taunton, the son of the late Frank & Eliza (Marques) Coelho. John was educated in Taunton schools. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He was employed as a castor for several local silver companies where he did custom work, including Reed & Barton, F.B. Rogers and Sheridan Silver CO. John enjoyed playing guitar, working around the house, his cats and spending time with his family. John leaves his daughter Dianne Wilbur and her husband Ralph of Taunton. His grandson Kevin Wilbur and his late grandson Bruce Wilbur. John was the brother of the late Irene Boffetti, Olive Arruda, Edward Martin and William Coelho. He also leaves several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 29th at 1 pm. in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Taunton, Dorothea Silva-Medeiros of Edgewater Fl. Passed away on Nov. 23, 2013 at Golden Living Center of Wedgemere in Taunton after a brief illness. She was 76 years of age. She was the loving wife of the late John Silva-Medeiros. She was born in Dighton Ma loving daughter of the late John Silva Jr. Prior to moving to Florida ten years ago she was a lifetime Dighton resident. She worked as a Hairdresser for Taunton State Hospital for many years until retirement. She was a member of American Legion in Edgewater Fl. She enjoyed knitting and most of all spending time with her granddaughters. She is survived by her step mother Mary Siva of FL. Who took care of her during her illness, two stepsons Glen Medeiros and his wife Tracey of Fall River and Brian Medeiros of Taunton, four granddaughters Justene Medeiros, Amber Medeiros, Jocelyn Medeiros and Jenna Medeiros all of Taunton, two sister in-laws Cindy Gadson of Fl., Marion Backlund of Halifax, a brother in-law Rick Medeiros of Fall River, a daughter in-law Angela Medeiros of Taunton and many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her sister Joan Butler and two nephews Michael and John Butler. Her Funeral services will be on Monday Dec, 2 2013 A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00am at St. Nicholas of Myra Church in N. Dighton followed by a burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.

TAUNTON – David M. Almeida, 78, of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital on November 25, 2013.
He was 78.
He was the partner of John A. Medeiros for the past twenty-four years.
Born in Taunton, David was the son of the late Joseph M. and Flora (Matheus) Almeida.
He was a lifelong Taunton resident.
A retired program director, David was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Developmental Services for many years.
He retired in 1988.
In addition to his partner of Taunton, he leaves three daughters, Cindy Almeida, Cathy Almeida, and Cheryl Rogers, all of Taunton; a brother, Arthur M. Almeida of Taunton; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Charles, Manuel, Joseph, George, Raymond, and Daniel Almeida; Frank Souza, Mary Moitoza, Alice Pino and Isabel Gilbert.
Funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family.

ASSONET – Francis E. Barboza, husband of Lorraine F. (LaPorte) Barboza, died at his Assonet home on Nov. 26, 2013.
He was 74.
Born in Fall River, the son of the late Manuel and Antoinette (Thibault) Barboza, he attended Berkley and Dighton schools.
Mr. Barboza moved to Assonet forty-four years ago.
He was the General Manager of Barboza Enterprises for many years.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he leaves four daughters, Kim B. Valeri and Matthew Wirkkala of South Hamilton, Valerie K. Liuzzi and her husband Michael of Norwell, Rona L. Duff and her husband Jamie of Swansea, and Christine Camara and her husband Jason of Tiverton, RI; a brother, Jack Barboza and his wife Pat of Assonet; two sisters, Phyllis Roy and her husband Edmond of Taunton, and Antoinette Hanoud and her husband Marty of Berkley; thirteen grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Ralph Barboza and Lorraine Medina.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, Dec. 2nd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of The Lord Church at 10 a.m.

Jamie Jeffrey Salley-AKA Fast Lane # 87/Slick. Jamie was 39 years young and lived all his life in Taunton with his family. He moved to the checkered flag in the sky on Sunday, November 24, 2013. Jamie was born (came out running) on June 18, 1974 to his parents Rodger and Barbara (Benoit) Salley. Besides his parents Jamie leaves behind his “Favorite Sister” Lori (Salley) Laffan, her husband Martin Laffan and three nephews who he proudly called “His Kids” Austin, Jake and Nolan Laffan. His Grandmother Lorraine West, and was pre-diseased only one month ago by his maternal grandmother Nancy Benoit, many loving Aunts and Uncles as well as cousins. He was a 1994 Graduate of Bristol Plymouth High School where he learned his craft of Auto Body. He worked for Quality Coach Builders of Norton for several years before he began his own business he proudly named FAST LANE. Jamie’s one true love was racing #87 on fast Fridays at Seekonk Speedway. Prior to racing cars, he enjoyed many years of riding dirt bikes with his dad, friends and brother in law Marty and many others from King Phillip Trail Riders from Wrentham, MA. They rode many New England trails together and especially Rocky Woods. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton. EAST TAUNTON – Julianne R. “Judy” (Gonsalves) Correia of East Taunton, wife of the late Joseph R. Correia, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 26, 2013.
She was 84.
Born on Jan. 16, 1929 in Foxboro, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary T. (Texeira) Gonsalves.
She worked for many years at Shields of Attleboro, and later retired from the Paul A. Dever State School where she worked in the laundry department.
Judy loved to travel and spend time with her family.
She leaves a daughter, Barbara Pearson and her husband James of North Carolina; a son, John Correia and Sheila Ducharme of East Taunton; a grandson, Andrew Pearson and his wife Dovie of Tennessee; a granddaughter, Kate Correia of Taunton; and two great grandchildren, Austyn and Victoria, of Tennessee.
She was also the sister of the late Cecilia Maltais.

REHOBOTH – Florence Norene Westgate, 94, passed away at her Rehoboth home on Nov. 26, 2013 surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Berkley on Nov. 8, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Daniel L. and Jennie F. Westgate.
Educated in the Berkley and Dighton Schools she worked for Raytheon in Dighton until her retirement.
Florence loved spending time with family and friends.
She loved animals and was especially fond of Heidi, the family Saint Bernard, as well as feeding swans and ducks on the Taunton River.
Florence loved beautiful flowers, especially bouquets as colorful as her personality.
She leaves her partner of over 40 years, Henry (Harry) Rostron of Raynham; a grandson, William E. Westgate, Jr. of Virginia; two nephews, Richard Miller and his late wife Elaine of Freeport, Texas, and Daniel Westgate and his wife Kathy of Berkley; two nieces, Audrey M. Westgate and her husband Dennis of Rehoboth, and Eleanor Barnes and her husband Bob of Berkley; special friends and family including Dennis, Juli and Chelsea Westgate of Rehoboth, Scott N. Westgate of Rehoboth, Scott N. Westgate, Jr. of Taunton, Daniel Westgate, III of Berkley, Dale and Colleen of Huntsville, Texas, Patricia Santos and Cindy Baker of Taunton, Ann, Glenn & Kyle Leite of Raynham, Sue and Kenneth Bombard of Raynham, the Jordan Family of Rehoboth, Brenda White of Taunton; and a very dear and special friend, Kirsten Leite of Raynham.
She was preceded in death by her son William E. Westgate of Freeport Texas and a grandson, Wayne Westgate of Virginia.
Funeral services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Dec. 7th at 11 a.m.
Burial will follow at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton.

TAUNTON – Manuel S. Ferreira, husband of the late Matilda M. “Tillie” Ferreira, died at Longmeadow of Taunton, on Nov. 30, 2013.
He was 92.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Manuel M. and Leocardia (Santos) Ferreira.
Manny was raised and educated in Taunton, and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 17th Air Force, 97th Bomb Group, of the 414th Bombardment Squadron.
A retired Captain and Fire Inspector, he served on the Taunton Fire Department for over thirty-four years.
Active in local affairs, Manny was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 83, VFW Post 611, Elks Lodge 150, VFW Seniors, and the Greater Taunton Charitable Association.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, walking, photography, and collecting cameras.
Survivors include a son, Daniel J. Ferreira and his wife, Judith of New London, NH; two sisters, Theresa Benoit and Hilda Charette, both of Dunedin, FL; longtime friend, Marie Rudd of Rehoboth; friend and companion, Marie Pludra-Turner of Taunton; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Laura L. Costa, and the brother of the late Jose, George and Antonio Ferreira, and the late Alice White.
Funeral Services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Thursday, Dec. 5th at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow at Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, Dec. 4th from 5 to 8 p.m.
