Mr. Jose S. Gutierrez, of Taunton, died Wednesday, September 26 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Elsa (Lapuz) Gutierrez. He was born 87 years ago in the Phillippines, the son of the late Cirilo and Maria (Sebastian) Gutierrez. He was educated in the Phillippines, where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Statistics from the University of the Phillippines. After relocating to the United States, he received his Master’s Degree from North Carolina State University, and his Ph.D. from Iowa State University. He had been a Taunton resident for the past 25 years. Prior to his retirement, he served as Agricultural Statistician for the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations, traveling worldwide, particularly in South America and Asia. He previously served as Director of the Statistical Center at the University of the Phillippines in Manila. Professor Gutierrez was formerly employed as a Professor of Economics and Statistics at the Graduate Level at the University of the Phillippines. He was a communicant of the Holy Family Church in East Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Joel L. Gutierrez of Taunton; 2 daughters: Purissima “Irma” Gutierrez and Catherine Gutierrez and her husband, Brian Hall, both of Taunton; 1 granddaughter: Danielle Harrison and her husband, Grant of Taunton; 2 great grandchildren: McLean and Harper Harrison, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Monday, October 1 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in the Holy Family Church, East Taunton, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. In Taunton, September 26, 2012 Mary Spousta, age 83 passed away in Marian Manor Nursing Home following a period of failing health. Mary was the wife of Leslie A. Spousta of Taunton for 62 years. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Frank & Amarie (Francis) Quegan. Mary had resided most of her life in Taunton. She was a member of the VFW Auxilliary, she volunteered at the Providence, RI. Veterans Hospital, the voting polls in Taunton and above all was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved going to all her families sporting events. Mary leaves her children Leslie Spousta & his wife Susan of Hobbs, New Mexico, Bruce Spousta & his wife Ann of Fall River, Joan Purnomo & her husband Djoko of Salem, Joyce Terry & her husband John of Taunton, Janet Jones & her husband Clifford of Trevor, WI., Jean Pillsbury & her husband Scott of Skowhegan, ME. Mary leaves her seventeen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. She also leaves her siblings Robert Quegan of Dennis and William Quegan of Litchfield, AZ. and the late Edward Quegan and Louise McNulty. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA on Monday, October 1st at 9am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 10am. In Fall River, September 27, 2012 Bernadette F. McCormack, age 68 passed away in St. Ann’s Hospital in Fall River following a brief illness. Bernadette was the wife of the late David McCormack. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of Arthur Travers of Taunton and her late mother Gertrude (Neary) Travers. Bernadette has resided most of her life in Taunton. She enjoyed cooking but cherished most her time with family. Bernadette is survived by her two children, Jeffrey McCormack of Taunton and Carey Qualkenbush & her husband Jason of Ware, MA. She also leaves her grandchildren Nicholas, Natalie, Matthew and Mark Qualkenbush all of Ware, MA. Her siblings Barbara Turner of Seekonk, Bernard Travers of MI., Arthur Travers Jr. of Taunton, Claire Travers of Taunton, Grace Bennington of FL., Carolyn Fossatti of Taunton, Catherine Rodriguez of Taunton. John S. Higgins age 73 of East Taunton passed away at the Kindred Transitional Care in East Bridgewater September 28th. Born and raised in Tennessee, he was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He has lived in Taunton since 1997 and has previously lived in Stoughton and Canton. He worked for Lois Shoe in South Boston for many years before retiring. Beloved husband of Bonnie G. (Titus). Father of John Higgins & his wife Lori of Taunton, Richard Higgins of Brockton & James Higgins & his wife Sandy of Brockton and the late Michael Higgins. Also survived by 8 grandchildren. Mrs. Elsa L. (Lapuz) Gutierrez, of Taunton, died Sunday, September 30 in Morton Hospital following a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Jose S. Gutierrez, who predeceased her on September 26. She was born 85 years ago in the Phillippines, the daughter of the late Gervacio and Consolacion (Briones) Lapuz. She was educated in the Phillippines, where she received her Bachelors Degree from the University of the Phillippines. After relocating to the United States, Mrs. Gutierrez received her Masters Degree in Sociology from North Carolina State University. Prior to her retirement, she worked with her late husband as a researcher in the Statistics Center of the University of the Phillippines. Elsa previously taught Sociology at the University of the Phillippines. She was a communicant of the Holy Family Parish in East Taunton.
She leaves: 1 son: Joel L. Gutierrez of Taunton; 2 daughters: Purissima “Irma” Gutierrez and Catherine Gutierrez and her husband, Brian Hall both of Taunton; 2 sisters: Lita Maralit and Corazon Dianzon both of the Phillippines; 1 granddaughter: Danielle Harrison and her husband, Grant of Taunton; 2 great grandchildren: McLean Harrison and Harper Harrison, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street on Monday, October 1 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial followed for both Dr. and Mrs. Gutierrez in the Holy Family Church at 10:00 A.M. A double interment followed in Mayflower Hill Cemetery. Taunton, William N. Andrews a former Dighton resident for over 60 years died Sunday Sept. 30, 2012 after a lengthy illness at Golden Living of Wedgemere at the age of 96. He was the husband of the late Vera Inez (Shuffield) Andrews. He was born in Philadelphia, PA son of the late Perley Lester Andrews born in Coventry RI and Ruth (Main) Andrews born in North Stonington, CT. Mr. Andrews earned his Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1937 from Rhode Island State College (now University of Rhode Island). During his time there he lettered in track his freshman year and cross country all four years. He served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army infantry and participated in several Pacific campaigns during WWII. He settled in Dighton and worked for the US Department of Agriculture as a Soil Conservationist for thirty years. He was a founding member of the Poppasquash Community Club in Dighton. He is survived by two sons Wayne Andrews and his wife Susanne of N. Dighton and William Andrews Jr. and his wife Anona Marie of Richardson TX. He is also survived by six grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was pre-deceased by two bothers Kenneth and Robert Andrews. Visiting hours will be held Thursday from 5-8pm, Funeral Services will be at 7pm. Burial will be private. In Taunton, October 5, 2012 Joan M. Henry, age 61 passed away in her home with her loving family by her side, following a brief illness. Joan was born in Taunton, the daughter of Alice M. Henry and the late William F. Henry. Joan has resided in Taunton since 1998 and was previously from San Diego, CA and the surrounding area which she loved. Joan was a hairdresser and bartender, most recently working at the Raynham Dog Track. She enjoyed hiking, biking, the beach, California and above all her children and grandchildren. Joan is survived by her loving children Alfred A. Craven of Taunton and James E. Craven of Wilmington, VT. Her grandchildren Jairek K. Craven of Taunton and Brianna Flanagan of Wilmington, VT. Also her siblings Cheryl Leary of Middleboro, Priscilla Ferreira of Taunton, William Henry and Raymond Henry both of CA. Joan also leaves several nieces and nephews and many close friends. RAYNHAM – Edward Joseph Rank, husband of Patricia (Silvia) Rank, died at his Raynham home on Oct. 4, 2012.
He was 69.
A resident of the Taunton and Raynham areas since 1963, he was born and raised in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Edward J. and Mary (Ryan) Rank.
Mr. Rank graduated from St. Veronica’s High School in Ambridge, PA in 1960 and later served in the U.S. Air Force.
He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for many years before retiring in 2004.
He had also worked for VW as a mechanic, and was a former flight instructor at Taunton Municipal Airport.
A member of the Taunton Rifle & Pistol Club and previously the Civil Air Patrol, Mr. Rank enjoyed flying, computer games, target shooting and traveling.
He enjoyed trips to Disneyworld, Arizona, Foxwoods, and visiting family and friends in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
In addition to his wife of Raynham, he leaves a son, Edward J. Rank, Jr. and his wife Christine of Northborough; a brother, James Rank and his wife Charlotte of Huntingtown, MD; two grandchildren, Jessica Lillian Rank and Allison Lindsay Rank, both of Northborough; and several nieces and nephews, with whom he was very close.
He was also the brother of the late Joan “Pat” Leppla and Marie Lintz.
Services will be held at the MA National VA Cemetery in Bourne on Wednesday Oct. 10th at 11:15 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling hours will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, Oct. 9th from 4 to 7 p.m.

Mr. Henry R. “Hank” Nolette, of Taunton, died Friday, October 5 in Longmeadow of Taunton following a period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn (Burgess) Nolette. He was born 88 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Telesphore and Ida (Martin) Nolette. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Taunton Street Department for 22 years. He was previously employed as “Hank the Coffee Man” for the former Burke’s Canteen in Taunton for 30 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as part of “The Armed Guard” aboard the USS Robert Fulton, the USS Tidepenn, and the USS Archbishop Lamy in both the Asiatic-Pacific and European Theatres. He was a member of the David F. Adams Post #611, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and was a coach and manager of the Tigers in the Taunton East Little League. Hank also umpired for a number of years for several area baseball leagues. He enjoyed camping at Bourne Scenic Park, fishing on Cape Cod Canal, bowling and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: Robert H. Nolette and his wife, Carol of North Dighton; 2 daughters: Susan Tirrell and her husband, Mark of Buzzards Bay, and Dianne Medeiros and her husband, James of Sandwich; 6 grandchildren: Michael Nolette, Jill Medeiros, Kerri-Ann Tirrell, Jeffrey Tirrell, Robert J. Nolette and Jay Medeiros; 5 great grandchildren: Bryant Nolette, Riley Leonard, Ty Leonard, Avery Nolette and Addison Leonard, and several nieces and nephews.
At his request, funeral services will be private at the convenience of the family. Interment will be in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting Hours are respectfully omitted. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.

Florence E. (Cote) Giovanelli 82 of Taunton died after a brief illness on October 6, 2012 at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

She was the Beloved wife of the late Raldo J. Giovanelli. Born in Raynham, the daughter of the late Wilfred S. and Edna M. (Gauvin) Cote, she lived her adult life in Taunton. She was a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church in No. Dighton. Mrs. Giovanelli was a dedicated wife and mother. She enjoyed gardening,
cooking, sewing, reading, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the Women’s Guild of the former
St. Paul’s Church. Survivors include three daughters, Joanne F. Moody and her husband Thomas of Camden, SC,
Gloria J. Homer and her husband Charles of Glen, NH, Ednamarie C. Giovanelli and her partner Steven Matowitz of Light House Point, FL, two Sons Robert R. Giovanelli and his wife Donna of Middleboro, and Randall J. Giovanelli of Taunton; four brothers Jean Cote of Raynham, Gerald Cote of Taunton, Ernest Cote of Gig Harbor, WA, and Paul Cote of Taunton; two sisters Lorraine Williams of Pompono Beach, FL and Yvonne Bird of Rehoboth; five grandchildren, Glendon C. Homer and his wife Dr. Mindy of New York City, Kurtis A. Homer of Fall River,
Dr. Alexandra M. Merolla of Boca Raton, FL, Andrea M. Giovanelli and Ryan R. Giovanelli both of Middleboro;
and her caregiver Tammy L. Bayard of Taunton; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late
Anita Chickering, Lawrence Cote, Claire Bleau, and Richard Norbert Cote.

Carl A. Barrows of Taunton passed away on October 8, 2012 at the age of 63. He was the loving husband of Judy Barrows of Taunton. Carl was the beloved father of Michelle Wybaniec and her husband Stan of South Dartmouth, Rodney Lima and his wife Kerri of Fall River and Christopher Lima and his wife Michelle of Taunton. Mr. Barrows was the proud grandfather of Nathan and Jordan Wybaniec, Jacob, Josleyn and Jessica Lima and Joshua Sabury. Carl was the loving brother of Bruce Barrows, Steven Barrows, Susan Barrows, Kenny Barrows, David Barrows and the late Charles Barrows, Jr.
Carl was born on February 13, 1949 in Fairhaven, MA, the son of the late Charles, Sr. and Eliza (Reise) Barrows. Mr. Barrows made his living as a hardworking Material Handler for the Cri-Tec Company. He enjoyed yard work and camping. One of his greatest joys was traveling. Carl will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Mrs. Cora T. (Courcy) Schondek, formerly of Taunton, died Monday, October 8 in The Cedars, Dartmouth, following a period of failing health. She was the beloved wife of the late Wesley A. Schondek. She was born 91 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Arthur and Cordiana (Paquin) Courcy. She was educated in Taunton and had been a city resident for most of her life. Prior to her retirement in 1984, she had been employed in the Medical Records Department of Taunton State Hospital for 16 years. Cora was a former member of the Queen’s Daughters in Taunton. She enjoyed needlework, knitting and gardening. She was a communicant of the former St. Jacques Parish in Taunton.
She leaves her niece, Charlene A. (Tarr) Martin of Westport, her nephew, Paul G. Tarr of California, and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also the sister of the late Teresa A. Tarr and Bertha Courcy, both of Taunton.

She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late Russell E. & Anna (Kozowskie) Kelley. Nancy had resided all her life in Taunton. She attended Taunton schools and graduated from Cassidy High School. Nancy then graduated with her bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College and her master’s degree from the University of New England in ME. Nancy retired from teaching for the City of Taunton, after teaching at Mulcahey Middle School. She enjoyed cooking, theatre, traveling especially to Aruba and cherished her time with family. Nancy also leaves her daughter Amanda Cronin & her husband Patrick of Middleboro. Her cousin Tina Lech, many nieces and nephews and close friends. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of Albert Rodriguez of Texas and Marline Rodriguez of Raynham.
Educated in Taunton schools, Natalie graduated from Taunton High School, and was currently enrolled as a dental assistant student at Lincoln Technical Institute.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church, she was fun loving to all who knew her, and loved her family very much.
In addition to her parents, she leaves three sons, Darnel Fernandes, Luis Vendrell and Michael Carrion, all of Taunton; four brothers, Jermaine Powell of Taunton, and Chaz, Sean and Kyle Rodriguez, all of NY; a sister, Bianca Calderon of Raynham; her loving partner, Luie Carrion of Taunton; a niece; a nephew; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, Oct. 12th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10 a.m.

TAUNTON – Alberto T. Pinheiro, husband of Maria L. (Amaro) Pinheiro of Taunton, died at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton on Oct. 10, 2012.
He was 78.
Mr. Pineiro was born and raised in Terceira, Azores, and served in the Portuguese Army before moving to Taunton in 1974.
He was the son of the late Francisco and Madalena (Oliveira) Pinheiro. Employed by the former Rand McNally and Colorworld, Mr. Pinheiro retired in 1998.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pinheiro leaves a son, Paulo Pinheiro and his wife Lori of E. Taunton; two daughters, Maria M. Rodrigues and her husband Francisco, and Ana M. Andre and her husband Carlos, all of Taunton; a sister, Henriqueta Pinheiro of Terceira, Azores; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Francisco, Jose and Madalena Pinheiro.
His funeral will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Saturday, Oct. 13th 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday Oct. 12th from 6 to 8 p.m.

In Brockton, October 14, 2012 Lucy M. Nelson (Ferrara), 83 years old of Raynham, MA, passed away peacefully at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on October 14th , 2012, surrounded by her loving family. Lucy was originally from Quenns, NY. She was the daughter the late Leonardo and Carmela (Leone) Ferarra. She was the loving wife of Paul E. Nelson (deceased), mother of Paul C. Nelson and his wife Marissa of North Falmouth, MA, James L. Nelson (deceased), John J. Nelson and his wife Darline pf Plainville, MA, Janet L. DiGiorgio and her husband Anthony of Lincoln, RI. In addition, she was the very proud grandmother of John “Jack” Nelson. She was the sister of Lawrence Ferarra (deceased) and his wife Pat Ferrara of Holtsville, NY, and Joseph and Roxanne Ferrara of Middle Village, NY. Lucy retired from the Foxboro Company in 1990 and was a Morton Hospital volunteer for many years accumulating over 2,500 hours of service. Lucy enjoyed fishing with her family on Cape Cod and proved to be a fierce competitor in the annual family fishing tournaments. She was also an avid gardener who diligently tended to her many flower and vegetable gardens. She was an excellent cook, always preparing her family’s favorite dishes. Lucy was a best friend to her children and their spouses, their friends, her favorite sister-in-law Pat, and her neighbors. Lucy’s family is especially thankful for her wonderful friends and neighbors with whom she truly enjoyed spending time with. We would especially like to thank Dr. Christopher Corey, Vascular Surgeon, and his staff at Park Surgical Associates, Inc., Brockton, MA and the dedicated staff of RN’s, doctors and nurses on the third floor cardiac and CCU units at Good Samaritan Medical Center for their compassionate and professional care during Lucy’s illness. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Weds., Oct. 17th from 5-8pm. at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780. Born in Taunton, Norma was the daughter of the late Mario and Rosa (Traverso) Riva. Norma was a graduate of Taunton High School class of 1947 and Kathleen Dell Secretarial School formerly in Boston. She was a member of the St Mary’s Woman’s Guild for over sixty years, Coyle and Cassidy mothers club, Weir Senior Citizens, Morton Hospital Auxiliary and the past president the board of directors of Taunton Visiting Nurses Association in charge of the Well Child Clinic. Norma was the mother of Sharon Shustack and her husband Steven of Wareham, Diane Suneson and her husband Michael of Taunton and Jacquelyn Arieta and her husband Thomas of Rehoboth. Grandmother of Michael, James, Erin, Christina, Christopher and Ian. Sister of Hugo Riva of Buzzards Bay and Ramo Riva of Taunton. Michelle Marie (Brown) Lawrence-McGough, 43, of Taunton, formerly of Brockton and East Bridgewater, passed away Sunday, October 14, 2012 at Tufts N.E. Medical Center in Boston surrounded by her loving family. Born in Boston she was the daughter of Laurence and Anne (Smith) Brown, and a graduate of East Bridgewater High. Michelle had worked for Frank Middleton Real Estate in Brockton for many years and was a Customer Service Representative at Dresser-Masoneilan in Avon, Mass. She loved music and people and will always be remembered for having had a smile for everyone. Her home was open to many children, including, Mollie, Mark and Michael McGough and Luis Contreras. She is survived by her husband Mark McGough of Taunton, her daughter Britney Lawrence of East Bridgewater, her son Matthew Lawrence of Fairhaven, her mother and father Laurence and Anne Brown of East Bridgewater and her brother Michael Brown of East Bridgewater. Her funeral service will be held Friday October 19 at 11 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Thursday October 18 from 4-8 PM.
