Mr. Dennais S. Avila, of Taunton, died Thursday, October 11 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of Audrey (Powell) Avila. He was born 63 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Thomas and Victoria (Cylinski) Avila. He was educated in Taunton and received his Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from Massasoit Community College in Brockton. Dennais was a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a firefighter for the City of Taunton for a number of years In the latter part of his career, he was involved with the Fire Department’s Fire Safety Program for the city’s schoolchildren. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era, and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the Air Force Club, the Taunton Fish and Game Association, and served on the Board of Directors of Taunton Federal Credit Union. He enjoyed playing golf, camping and hunting. In addition to his wife, he leaves: 2 stepsons: Dale Hebert and his wife, Ivette of Taunton, and Glen Hebert of Taunton; 1 stepdaughter: Robbin Leary and her husband, Brian of Sandwich, and several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton.

TAUNTON – Byrl V. Laucks, husband of Ilse (Hauschildt) Laucks of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital & Medical Center on Oct. 11, 2012. He was 92. Born in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late George W. and Hattie (Krumbine) Laucks. A graduate of Penn State, Mr. Laucks moved to the Taunton area in 2001. A U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, he attained the rank of Sergeant and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was later employed by the Foxboro Company as an industrial engineer for over fifteen years. A talented musician, Mr. Laucks was known as a great trumpeter, playing in “big band” style ensembles, including the Lexington Bicentennial Band. In his spare time, he enjoyed photography, researching genealogy, and computers. He was an avid reader. In addition to his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katherine A. Picard and her husband Richard of Bedford; two stepdaughters, Stefanie Thomas of Orange Park, FL, and Heidi Iozza of Medford; two grandchildren, Steven Picard of Hudson, NH, and Nicole O’Toole of Littleton, MA; seven step grandchildren; six great grandsons; three nieces; and a nephew. Mrs. Fannie O (Perry) Wilford, of Taunton, died Wednesday, October 17 in the New England Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital, Stoughton following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Richard A.J. Wilford. She was born 87 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late John and Fannie P. (Silva) Perry. She was educated in Taunton and was a lifelong city resident. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as an assembler for the Ad-A-Day Company in Taunton for over 20 years. Fannie enjoyed spending time with her family, especially Jake and Angel. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. In addition to her husband, she leaves: 2 stepdaughters: Sharon Maycock and her husband, Paul of Woonsocket, R.I., and Bernadette Hilton of Taunton; 2 brothers: Leo Perry of Taunton and Herbert Perry and his wife, Kay of Taunton; 1 sister: Shirley Giroux of Norton; 1 sister-in-law: Claire Perry of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edmund Perry of Taunton. Funeral services and interment will be held at a time and date to be announced. Taunton, Lois Ida Greene formerly a resident of Brockton until recently relocating to Longmeadow of Taunton. died Friday October 12,2012 at Longmeadow of Taunton after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Somerville MA, daughter of the late Louis McMenimen and Hilda (Ready) McMenimen. She was an avid bingo player, enjoyed playing the lottery and took pride in making her home a home in her spare time. She loved her cat Bea more then anything. She was the loving mother of Paul Smith, Debora Horn, Joseph Smith, Clyde Smith, Brenda Sanders and Dwight Greene. In addition to her children she leaves behind one brother Robert Mcmenimen, eighteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves her dear friend/caretaker Phyllis George. She was pre-deceased by her sister Julia McDonough . Viewing hours will be held on Thursday from 10-11am at the Taunton Funeral Home. Burial will be private. Avila, who passed on October 11. She was born 64 years ago in Virginia, the daughter of Gilbert and Eunice K. (Enos) Andrade of Taunton, and the late Rufus A. Powell. She was educated in Taunton, having graduated from Taunton High School, and was also a graduate of Fisher Junior College. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as an accountant for Community Care of Taunton for over 12 years. She enjoyed camping, gardening, trips to Salem, arts and crafts and knitting. She leaves: 2 sons: Dale Hebert and his wife, Ivette of Taunton, and Glen Hebert of Taunton; 1 daughter: Robbin Leary and her husband, Brian of Sandwich; 1 brother: Skip Andrade and his wife, Jackie of New York; 4 sisters: Sharon Burgess of Virginia, Mary Lou Andrade of Raynham, Claudia Neault and her husband, Chip of Bridgewater, and Roberta Gringorten and her husband, Sheldon of Newton; 8 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In Berkley, October 21, 2012 Douglas Herrick, age 77 passed away following a lengthy illness in his home. He was born in Framingham, the son of the late Clifton H. & Augusta (Burkett) Herrick. Douglas has resided in Berkley and formerly of both Taunton and Raynham. He was employed at Pride Workshop. Doug enjoyed going out to eat, long walks, attending many local church services and spending time with his many friends. Douglas is survived by his longtime friend and pastor George Bolton who will be officiating at his funeral service. Doug also leaves several close friends and colleagues. A funeral home service will be celebrated at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 on Thursday, October 25th at 1pm. Visiting hours are prior to the service from 12-1pm. TAUNTON – Maria Lidia (Filipe) Amorim, wife of the late Abilio de Amorim, died at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton on Oct. 19, 2012. She was 83. Born, raised and educated in Fayal, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Manuel A. and Catarina Filipe. After moving to Taunton in 1969, she was employed by the former Boyden Plastics for many years and the former Princess House. She was a communicant of St. Anthony Church. Survivors include two sons, Abilio E. Amorim of Taunton and Jose F. Amorim of Raynham; a brother, Manuel Paulino Filipe of Fayal, Azores; two sisters, Zelia Branco and Valentina Freitas, both of Taunton; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Anacleto L. Amorim and Maria Cidalia Pacheco, and the sister of the late Maria DaRosa. TAUNTON – Olga (Gouveia) Figueiredo, wife of the late Nelson A. Figueiredo, died at her Taunton home with her family by her side, on Oct. 21, 2012. She was 88. A lifelong resident of Taunton, she was the daughter of the late John and Belmira (King) Gouveia, and the stepdaughter of the late Camille Gouveia. She was educated in Taunton schools and was a homemaker for most of her adult life. A communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, Mrs. Figueiredo enjoyed collecting angels, and was often heard saying “Angels on your pillow.” She enjoyed her faith, her family, and her friends. Survivors include a son, Allen Figueiredo and his wife Sharon of Taunton; two daughters, Paulette LaCroix and her husband Marc of Taunton, and Susan Travers and her husband Alfred Costa of N. Dighton; two brothers, Robert Gouveia and his wife Catherine of Taunton and John Gouveia and his wife Cheryl of Assonet; a sister, Natalie Reed of Raynham; her daughter-in-law, Donna Figueiredo of Middleboro; sixteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Nelson A. Figueiredo, Jr. and the sister of the late Louis Gouveia and Deanna Corey. Silva Martins, husband of Isabella Martins of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, and the late Margarida (Cordeiro) Martins, died at Trillium Health Care Center in Mississauga on Oct. 18, 2012. A resident of the Mississauga area for the past five years, Mr. Matins was 59 years old. Born, raised and educated in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of Maria Silva of Taunton and the late Manuel Sousa Martins. He served in the Portuguese Army before moving to the Taunton area 1985. A self-employed electrician by trade, he was a former member of Annunciation of the Lord Church. In addition to his wife and mother, he leaves four sons, Agnelo, Luis, Pedro, Jr. and Stephen Martins, all of Taunton; two daughters, Catia and Ana Martins, both of Taunton; a stepson, Steven Nunes of Mississauga, Ontario; two sisters, Leontina Almeida of Taunton and Delores Camara of FL; two grandchildren, Sophia and Ayden Grant; and several nieces and nephews. TAUNTON – Ruth (Gouveia) Frizado, wife of James D. Frizado, died at her Taunton home on Oct. 24, 2012 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Ruth had immeasurable strength, love and grace in death as in life. She was 69. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Cambra) Gouveia. A lifelong Taunton resident, she was educated in Taunton schools, and later worked for Taunton State Hospital and the former Paul A. Dever State School as an MRA, retiring many years ago. Ruth was a communicant of Holy Family Church, and member of the Wampanoag Camping Club as well as NAFCA. She enjoyed camping, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband of Taunton, Mrs. Frizado leaves two daughters, Norma J. Silva and her husband Richard of Dighton, and Nancy Galuski and her husband James of Lakeville; a son, Thomas D. Mello; a sister, Shirley Knell and her husband Thomas of Taunton; two brothers, Robert Gouveia and his wife Blanch, and Joseph Gouveia, all of Taunton; four grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Norman Gouveia. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late John F. & Ann Marie (Cunif) McEvoy. Eleanor has resided all her life in Taunton. She was employed as a beautician for over twenty years. Eleanor enjoyed going out to eat, children and visiting with her friends. She was preceded in death by her sisters Katherine Gregg, Ann McEvoy and Mary Louise McEvoy. Donald was born in Rumford, ME, the son of the late Donald J. & Alice (Larmey) Nathan. He has resided in Taunton the past eleven years and was formerly of Brockton and Boston. Donald retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2002. He was a devoted Dad and Grandfather who cherished his time with family. Donald leaves his children Sherrie-Lee Credit and her husband Michael of East Wareham, Donald Nathan III of Taunton, Danielle Nathan of Taunton, Sean Nathan of Taunton and his step children Bonnie-Lee Curtis of Lakeville and Rona Poleet of Oklahoma. He also leaves his eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his siblings Douglass Nathan, David Nathan and Cheryl James. Born in Fall River, he was the son of Frank A. Lema Jr. of Davenport, FL and Brenda M. (Frates) Lema of East Taunton. A 1984 graduate of Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School, Douglas worked as a self-employed painter for many years, and was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Born, raised and educated in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he was the son of the late Walter and Mary (Wajdowicz) Babula. Mr. Babula was a retired veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War. For many years he was employed as an industrial plumber with the Tecnik Company of Rhode Island. Born, raised, and educated in Faial da Terra, St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria (Braga) do Couto. A resident of the Taunton area since 1966, she was employed by Texas Instruments and the former Rennie Curtain Factory. She retired in 1982. A faithful communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mrs. do Couto enjoyed attending mass and praying. She also enjoyed Portuguese music, dancing, cooking and baking. Survivors include two sons, Alberto F. do Couto and Filomeno F. Couto both of Taunton; four daughters, Gilda M. Soares of Cambridge, Ontario, Maria C. Festa of Taunton, Germana B. TAUNTON/WAREHAM – Catherine A. (Donnelly) Figuereor, wife of the late John D. Figuereor, and the late Henry McCarthy, died at Tobey Hospital in Wareham on Nov. 6, 2012. She was 96. Born, raised and educated in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Sarah (Dowd) Donnelly, and the stepdaughter of the late John Noonan. A graduate of Taunton’s former St. Mary’s High School, Mrs. Figuereor was employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro for many years before retiring in 1978 and was a longtime member of The V.F.W. Post 611, Women’s Auxiliary of Taunton. Survivors include two sons, Joseph McCarthy of Berkley and David McCarthy of Taunton; a daughter, Connie Babula of Wareham; seven grandchildren; and many great grandchildren. In Taunton, November 16, 2012 Ethelyn M. (Pittsley) Bissonnette wife of the late Joseph Chester Bissonnette died at Longmeadow Nursing Home at the age of 105. Born and educated in Taunton, Ethelyn was the daughter of the late Herbert and Edna (Borden) Pittsley. Ethelyn was retired from the former George E. Keith Shoe Factory and Rennie’s Curtian Factory. She was a former member of the Taunton Eagles and also enjoyed having her family visit with her at the nursing home. Ethelyn was the mother of Nelson Sherman and his wife Evelyn of Taunton, Arnold Sherman and his wife Laura of Taunton, Roberta Perry of No Dighton and Helene O’Neil and her husband William of Bourne. Grandmother of thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Sister of the late Leora Chappell. A service will be held at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton, Tuesday, November 20th at 11 AM. Calling hours will be on Monday from 4-7 PM. Raymond Allan Boyce a E. Taunton resident died Friday Nov. 16, 2012 after a brief illness surrounded by his loving family at Morton Hospital and Medical Center. He was 65 yrs of age. He was born in Taunton , Son of the late Ralph and Avis (Rose) Boyce. He was a graduate of Dighton Rehoboth High School. He worked for Raytheon for many years as a Manager. Mr. Boyce was a member of the E. Taunton Social Club and a long time president, he also was a member of McGrath’s Fish Club and the American Legion in Berkley. He enjoyed fishing ice fishing. He was involved with the girls softball for many years. Most of all he loved to spend time with his family and friends who he will be missed greatly by. He was the loving father of Heather Riendeau and her husband Maurice of E. Taunton, he was the loving grandfather of Alysa, Shelby, Andrew and Riley. He leaves behind a dear friend Linda Boyce. He is also survived by one sister Edith Remedis of Taunton one brother Ronald Boyce of N. Dighton and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Boyce was predeceased by two sons Nicholas S. Boyce and Christopher A. Boyce. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday at 7:30pm at the Taunton Funeral Home which relatives and friends are invited to attend, visiting hours will be 4-8pm.
