In Taunton, March 23, 2016 Jose H. Pereira, Age 71, passed away in Morton Hospital following a brief illness. Jose is survived by his loving wife Maria L.(Sousa) Pereira. Jose was born in Faial, Azores, the son of the late Manuel & Maria (Lacerda) Jorge. Jose immigrated to Taunton during the 1960’s. He was employed at the Frank Noone Shoe Company in Taunton and later at Eureka Manufacturing. He was a member of the Taunton Sports Club since its opening. He enjoyed fishing, watching soccer especially his two granddaughters games and being with his family. In addition to his wife, Jose leaves his son Rick Pereira and his wife Kelley of Taunton. He also leaves his two granddaughters Allison and Kayleigh Pereira of Taunton. His siblings Salome Silveira of Faial, Azores and Aldina Freitas of San Jose, CA and the late Manuel Jorge. Jose also leaves several nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral from the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St., Taunton, Ma 02780 on Tuesday, March 29th at 10 am. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church at 11 am. Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Monday from 5-7 pm. Roberto Rivera Ramos, 77 Dateline: Taunton, MA Roberto Rivera Ramos, age 77, of Taunton, passed away in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, March 24, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Mercedes R. Rivera, whom he had spent the past 38 years together with. Born in Santurce, Puerto Rico on March 31, 1938, he was a loving son of the late Pablo Rivera and Julia Ramos. Roberto grew up and was educated in Puerto Rico. In 1959 he moved to the United States and settled in Taunton, where he has lived ever since. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968-1991 and from 1991-1998 in the Army Reserve. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant (E5). Roberto had also been employed as a machine operator at the former Nabisco Chocolate Co. in Mansfield and also worked for the American Lighting Co. in Taunton. Roberto was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Taunton and formerly played in the Taunton Sunshine Softball League. He loved spending time with family and friends, which included playing dominoes and card games. Roberto also loved the outdoors and had the ability to fix just about anything. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters Maritza Rivera, Ada L. Rivera, Lillian Rivera, Sandra Rivera, Daina Cabrera, Dania Rivera, Diana Rivera and the late Brenda Rivera. He was the dear brother of Juanita Correa of Taunton, Pablo J. Rivera of East Providence, Pablo Jose Rivera, Marta Rivera, Nancy Rivera and Georgina Rivera all of Puerto Rico, and the late Atanacia Deleon, Carmin J. Rivera, Martin Rivera and Nanito Rivera. He is also survived by his cherished 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews. His funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 29th at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, St. Mary’s Square, Taunton. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Taunton. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, March 28th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the Taunton Funeral Home, 8 Crapo St. (Off Route 140, Tremont St.) Taunton. (Cardosa) Borges of Taunton. He was born in St. Michael, Azores in Portugal, the son of the late Jose & Laurentina (Carrieao) Borges. Jose was educated in Portugal schools and worked in construction. He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton. Jose enjoyed being busy, always fixing anything and known to his family as the jack of all trades. He loved his dogs and enjoyed watching his soccer Team Sporting, most of all he cherished his time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife , Jose leaves his children Tina Fontes, Joseph Borges and Victor Borges all of Taunton. He also leaves his three grandchildren Daniel, Neveah and Chloe all of Taunton. Mrs. Wanda A. (Folcik) Widak, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 31 at Morton Hospital. She was the wife of the late Stanley A. Widak. She was born 86 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Bzdula) Folcik. She was educated in Taunton and had been a city resident for most of her life, residing in Pawtucket, R.I. for a short time. Prior to her retirement, Wanda had been employed as a Home Health Aide for the Taunton Visiting Nurse Association for 17 years. She was previously employed as a waitress at the former Sankey’s Café in Taunton, and had formerly been employed at both Eureka Manufacturing and the Whittenton Garment Corp. She was a member of the Polish National Alliance, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Taunton Eagles Club, the Association for Retarded Citizens, the Holy Rosary Church Choir and was a Polish Picnic volunteer. Wanda was also former Vice President of the Taunton Golden Agers. She was a communicant of the Holy Rosary Church. She leaves: 1 daughter: Linda Gouveia and her husband, John of Taunton; 1 son: Michael Widak of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Edward Folcik of Norton, Helen Gudinas and Josephine Oliveira both of Taunton. Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, April 6 at 9:00 A.M. In Taunton, April 1, 2016 Helen (Carreiro) Nepini, Age 80, passed away in Morton Hospital following a period of declining health. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Edward Nepini. She was born in Newport, RI, the daughter of the late George & Emily (Cabral) Carreiro. Helen had resided most of her life in Taunton. She was educated in Taunton schools. Helen was a devoted and caring housewife who enjoyed crocheting and spending time with her family. Helen is survived by her children Sandra Veras of Attleboro, David Nepini of Attleboro, Dennis Nepini of East Taunton, Michael Nepini of Cumberland, RI. And Gary Nepini of Norton. She was the grandmother of ten grandchildren, sin great and one great great grandchild. A graveside service will be held at Cedar Knoll Cemetery in East Taunton on Thursday, April 7th at 10 am. EAST TAUNTON – Dennis O. Marote, Jr., husband of Debra A. (Machado) Marote, died at his East Taunton home on March 30, 2016. He was fifty-seven years old. Born in New Bedford he was the son of Aurora (Ferreira) Marote and the late Dennis O. Morote. Raised and educated in New Bedford Dennis was a 1978 graduate of New Bedford High School. A Taunton area resident since 1982, he was employed by St. Yves Motor Sales, Inc. of Berkley for many years where he worked as an auto body technician and auto mechanic. He loved cars and car racing. In addition to his wife and mother he leaves a brother, Alan Marote of Florida and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. His funeral was private at the convenience of the family. She was born in Taunton, the daughter of the late John & Nellie (Tobin) Buczek. Mary was a lifelong resident of Taunton. She was employed at the former Paul E. Dever State School. Mary loved to spend time with her family, she was known for her humor, loving personality and sense of fashion. Mary also enjoyed reading, playing cards, watching Judge Judy, the Game Show Network and eating ice cream and sweets. Mary is survived by her loving children Kenneth Santos, Albert Santos, Theresa Levesque, Jane Boiros, Patricia Pereira, Maureen Santos, Mary Schindelwig, Sheila Santos and the late Karen Munroe. Mary also leaves her brother Frederick Buczek. She also leaves her eighteen grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was employed for the Division of Unemployment for the Commonwealth of MA. Florence enjoyed dancing, teaching tap dance and was a devoted homemaker who loved spending time with her family. She was born 64 years ago in Taunton, the daughter of the late Frank J. and Frances L. (Todorsky) Konopacki, Sr. A lifelong city resident, Lorraine graduated from Taunton High School and also from the Katherine Gibbs School in E. Providence, R.I. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a Teacher’s Aide for the City of Taunton School System for 18 years. She was previously employed as a secretary at Wheaton College in Norton for a number of years. Lorraine enjoyed knitting in her monthly knitting group. She also enjoyed sports, especially the Boston Bruins and the New England Patriots, as well as shopping at Kohl’s and the Christmas Tree Shops. She was a communicant of the former Holy Rosary Parish in Taunton. In addition to her husband, she leaves: 1 son: Robert B. MacDonald, Jr. and his companion, Jodi Johnson of Taunton; 1 daughter: Katie MacDonald of Taunton; 1 brother: Frank J. In Plymouth, April 13, 2016 Glenn A. Marvel, Age 52, passed away in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Plymouth. Glenn was born in Taunton, the son of Mary Ann (Dumoulin) Marvel of Taunton. Glenn had resided in Plymouth the past two years and was formerly of Taunton. He attended Taunton schools and was a graduate of N.E. Technical School in R.I. Glenn was employed as a carpenter until his health had allowed. He enjoyed golfing, listening to music and playing drums in many local bands, collecting muscle cars, cooking and especially being with his family and the people he loved. Glenn was the former husband of Michelle (Gagnon) Marvel of Brockton and leaves his friend and caregiver Patricia Mehtala of Plymouth. He is survived by his two loving sons Ryan and Corey Marvel of Brockton. His brothers Jeffrey Marvel of East Taunton, David Marvel of Taunton and Guy Marvel of Indiana and his late sister Susan (Marvel) Bridges. Glenn also leaves several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and many friends. TAUNTON – Evelina (Machado) Teixeira of Taunton died at Morton Hospital on April 15, 2016. She was 91. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Frank R. and Mary (Concellbus) Machado. Educated in Portugal, Evelina worked as a seamstress most of her life for Knopf Sportswear and as a cafeteria worker for Paul A. Dever State School for 16 years. She retired in 1993. A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Evelina was a loving, caring person and was devoted to her family. She loved shopping with her children, making crafts, designing clothes, and enjoyed family gatherings. Survivors include a son, Victor Teixeira and his wife Suzanne of Taunton; two daughters, Lucy Hastie and Mary Bullock and her husband Harry, both of Taunton; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and a niece, Donna Cabral. She was also mother to the late Louis Teixeira and sister to the late Mary Couto. Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, April 19th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Mr. William L. Vigneault, a retired city firefighter and veteran died Monday, April 18 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Ida T. (Benoit) Vigneault. He was born 94 years ago in Whitman, the son of the late Nelson and Ida (Pernusch) Vigneault. He was educated in Hanson and Weymouth and had been a Taunton resident for the past 63 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been a firefighter for the City of Taunton for 32 years, and was also a member of their dive team. He was previously a self-employed carpenter, who worked on a number of major construction projects in the Boston area, including the Hancock Tower. William was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was recalled to active duty and was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a flight engineer with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of the David F. Adams Post #611, Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Firefighters Association, the Massachusetts Archaeological Society, and the National Wood Carvers Association. He was also a member of the Brockton Fuller Memorial Art Center. William was also a sculptor, and was well known throughout the area. An avid boating and fishing enthusiast, he also enjoyed woodworking, painting, traveling through Europe with his late wife, Ida, and spending time with his family, especially teaching his grandchildren how to fish. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton. He leaves: a daughter Jan Farley and her husband, Wayne of Taunton; a granddaughter: Shannon McGuire, and a grandson: Dwayne Farley and his wife, Susan, all of Taunton; 2 great grandsons: Dylan and Ryan Farley, and several nieces and nephews. William was also the brother of the late Nelson, Helen, and Mabel Vigneault, and Mary Fox. Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Friday, April 22 at 10:00 A.M. In Dennis, April 20, 2016 William H. Gallagher Jr. husband of Ann (Littleton) Gallagher died at Epoc of Harwich at the age of 78. Born in Dighton, William was the son of the late William and Lillian (Corrigan) Gallagher Sr. William was a graduate of Coyle High School class of 1956 then went on to join the US Marines Corp. He was retired from the Bay State Gas Company in Brockton for thirty seven years. He was the former union president for Bay State Gas Co., a former football coach for the Weir Tigers and was on the Bristol Plymouth Regional Technical High School Committee. He was the father of Judith Fagundes and her husband William of Lakeville and William Gallagher and his wife Carli of Berkley. Grandfather of Ruth Fagundes of Lakeville, Ashley, Brian and Jack Gallagher all of Berkley. Brother of Fran Gallagher and his wife Susan of RI, Bob Gallagher and his wife Paula of East Taunton, Tom Gallagher and his wife Jean of Yarmouthport and the late Timothy Gallagher. TAUNTON – Dorothy Louise (Amaral) Burdock, wife of the late Edward J. Burdock, died at the Taunton Nursing Home on April 20, 2016. She was 88. Born in Dighton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel P. and Mary (White) Amaral. Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of the former Dighton High School. She was employed by Golden Living Center-Wedgemere for many years as a certified nurse’s aide and also worked in private homes. A communicant of St. Mary’s Church, she was a past president of the North Taunton Seniors and former member of the V.F.W. Post 611 Auxiliary. Dorothy loved children and enjoyed entertaining and will be missed by many friends. Survivors include her daughter, Debra Burdock of East Taunton; two grandchildren; two nieces; and her special friend, Stephanie Amaral of Taunton. She was also the sister to the late Albert Amaral. Mr. Charles E. Lewis, of Taunton, died Thursday, April 21 in St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center, Brighton, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Ruth (MacKenzie) Lewis. He was born 67 years ago in Falls of Rough, Kentucky, the son of Virginia Midkiff and the late Henry P. Lewis. He was educated in Kentucky and was a graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Ma. Prior to his retirement, Charles had been employed as a truck driver for ABF Freight in West Bridgewater for over 20 years. He was a member of Local 653 International Brotherhood of Teamsters. He enjoyed video games, his computer, and playing the lottery. In addition to his wife, of Taunton, and his mother, of Kentucky, he leaves: 1 daughter: Rhonda Salvatori of Taunton; 1 brother: Jimmy Lewis of Kentucky; 2 sisters: Mary Jane Nelson and her husband, James of Kentucky and Patsy Clemons and her husband, Danny of Kentucky; 2 grandchildren: Nicholas and Katelyn Salvatori, both of Taunton, and several nieces and nephews. Charles was also the father-in-law of the late Robert Salvatori. A Funeral Procession will begin at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, April 27 at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Westville Cemetery at 11:00 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.

TAUNTON – John Fontes, son of the late Manuel and Mary (Lopes) Fontes, died at Marian Manor on April 22, 2016. He was 81. Born in Taunton, he was educated in Taunton schools and was a lifelong resident of the area. John was a self-employed floor layer for many years. He retired many years ago. A kind and generous man, John enjoyed hanging out at Goldstein’s and playing the lottery. He especially loved spending time with his family. Surviors include a daughter, Sasha Fontes of Taunton; a sister, Margaret “Nina” Rose of Taunton; a granddaughter, Rana Fontes; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the twin brother of the late James “Jimmy” Fontes, and the brother of the late Sonny Manuel Fontes and Louise Montrond. Graveside Services will be held at Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton on Friday, April 29th at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. TAUNTON – John F. Fernandes, Jr. of Taunton, husband of Jeannine (Brochu) Fernandes for 55 years, died at Mass. General Hospital on April 26, 2016. He was 79. Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late John F. Fernandes, Sr. and Alcine (Furtado) Fernandes. Educated in Taunton, he received his Associates Degree in Business. John was the owner of JD Furniture, a family business for many years. He loved to restore old cars, play softball and was a member of the Nash Club of America, Willy’s Overland Jeepster Club and co-founder of the Taunton Art Association. Besides his wife Jeannine, he leaves four sons, Kevin Fernandes of Taunton, Brian Fernandes of Plymouth, John Fernandes of E. Taunton and Peter Fernandes of N. Falmouth; one daughter, Jeana Faiella of Taunton; five grandchildren; two brothers, David Fernandes of Bourne and Steven Fernandes of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, May 3rd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Church at 10 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
