Mr. George E. Dufresne, of Taunton, died Tuesday, July 10 in the Good Samaritan Medical Center, Brockton, following a brief illness. He was born 68 years ago in New Bedford, the son of the late Alvinie E. and Annette (Gobeil) Dufresne. A Taunton resident for most of his life, he was educated here, having graduated from the former Msgr. James Coyle High School and was also a graduate of Bridgewater State College. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a Captain at the Mass. Correctional Institute – Norfolk for over 20 years. He was previously employed at the former BPM Supermarket in Taunton. George was a U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in Europe during the Vietnam Era. He enjoyed camping at Canoe River and spending time with his family. He was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Taunton.
He leaves: 1 son: George E. Dufresne, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Assonet; 2 sisters: Anne M. Rounds of Assonet and Laura J. Reynolds of Taunton; 2 brothers: Paul L. Dufresne of Taunton and Ronald Dufresne and his wife, Maureen of Lakeville; 1 sister: Doris Bird of Taunton; 2 grandchildren: George E. Dufresne, III and Taryn Reynolds; 1 great grandson: Braiden Reynolds, and several nieces and nephews. George was also the father of the late Michael Dufresne of Taunton, and the brother of the late Patricia Monahan of Taunton.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Saturday, July 14 at 9:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment will be in Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Friday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
