Jane B. McManus 5/20/2014 Taunton, MA

Jane B. McManus, a retired Police Sergeant who led a distinguished career on the Taunton Police Force, died of natural caucus on May 20 in Taunton. She was 62. Born in Taunton in 1952, Jane was the daughter of the late Emily (Knapinski) and Joseph McManus of Taunton, and the sister of the late Valerie Thoman of Florida. She is survived by one brother J. John McManus, JR. of Taunton. Her nieces and nephews Melissa Panos of MO, Earl Thoman III of IL (deceased), Lannie Castronova of NY, Jill McCauley of MO, JP Thoman of FL, Amy McManus of IL and Kathryn McManus of RI. Jane was a graduate of Bishop Cassidy High School in Taunton and the Katherine Gibbs School in Providence, RI. She entered the Police Academy in 1979 and in 1980 became an officer on the Taunton Police Force. In 2000 Jane was the first female officer to be promoted to Sergeant. She retired in 2012. Jane loved her work and served proudly in her 32 years of service of the citizens of Taunton. She considered her follow officers to be her extended family. She had a strong knowledge of and love for antiques, was a great calligrapher, was devoted to her cats, and found great beauty and solace in the landscapes of Cape Cod. She will be tremendously missed by her family and friends. Jan’s family will great friends and relatives on Tuesday, June 10 from 4-7 PM at the O’Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington Street in Taunton A Mass will be held at the Annunciation of the Lord Church in Taunton on Wednesday at 11 AM. Interment St Francis Cemetery in Taunton. In lieu of flowers donations in Jane’s memory may be made to the Taunton Animal Shelter, 821 West Water Street, Taunton, MA, 02780.
