Mr. A. Louis Mezzera, of Taunton, died Sunday, March 31 in the Life Care Center of Raynham following a brief period of failing health. He was the beloved husband of Phyllis (MacDougall) Mezzera. He was born 89 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Lodovico and Irma (Balbiani) Mezzera. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a chemical worker for the former ICI America in Dighton for 65 years. Mr. Mezzera was previously employed at the former Mason Box Company in Taunton, where he met his wife. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in the Military Police in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a member of the Winthrop Street Baptist Church Couples Club and the Taunton Council on Aging. He enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years, gardening, camping, spending time with his family, and was very active in his church. In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 daughter: Karen L. Heap of Taunton; 1 sister: Catherine McGrath of Raynham; 2 grandchildren: Robert D. Heap and Cynthia Graves; 1 great granddaughter: Lorelei Graves, and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Giovanna “Jenny” Lava of Taunton. A Funeral Service will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Wednesday, April 3 at 12:00 Noon. Interment will follow in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M.
