TAUNTON – Manuel D. Duarte, husband of Maria C. (Almeida) Duarte, died at the Marian Manor on March 25, 2013. He was 77. Born, raised and educated in Faial, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose F. and Silvina A. (Vital) Duarte. After moving to California in 1959, he was employed by the Peterbilt Motors Company for many years, before moving back to Faial. He had been a Taunton resident for the past three years. A musician, Mr. Duarte played both trumpet and tuba in Portuguese marching bands, and was a member of several Portuguese clubs in both California and the Azores. In addition to his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, Emanuel Duarte of Taunton; two daughters, Elza Brum of Taunton and Elizabet Silva of Sanford, FL; a brother, Antonio Duarte of the Azores; two sisters, Maria Leal of CA and Terezinha Capaz of Azores; five grandchildren, Diane, Marissa and Joseph Brum; and Ciara and Preston Silva; a great grandson, Carter DaPonte; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Jose and Eduardo Duarte; and Bernadette Silveira. His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Wednesday, March 27th at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Andrew the Apostle Church at 12 noon.
