Mrs. Gertrude G. (Bernier) Bernier, of Taunton, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 29 in Morton Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late Felicien E. “Phil” Bernier. She was born 90 years ago in Acushnet, the daughter of the late Damase and Cecile (Raiche) Bernier. She was educated in New Bedford and had been a Taunton resident for the past 68 years. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed as a driver for Lopes Bus Lines of Raynham for 10 years. Mrs. Bernier was a member of L’Union St. Jean Baptiste, Conseil # 53. She enjoyed camping, flying, square dancing, playing the organ, skating, swimming, motorcycles and spending time with her family. She was a communicant of St. Jude the Apostle (formerly St. Jacques) Parish in Taunton.
She leaves: 6 sons: Richard, David and Edouard Bernier all of Taunton, Daniel and Paul Bernier of Hendersonville, Tenn., and Philip Bernier; 3 daughters: Lucie Alves and Marie A. Pavao both of Dighton, and Anita Van Bern Marin of Taunton; 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Raymond, Clement, Herve and Omer Bernier, Blanche Boudreau, Irene Langlois and Germaine Parent.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Jude the Apostle Church, 249 Whittenton Street on Friday, May 4 at 6:30 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The family will receive visitors in the Church foyer prior to the Mass, Friday, from 5:30 to 6:30 P.M. Arrangements are under the direction of The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home of Taunton..
