Mr. William E. Dowty, formerly of Taunton, died Thursday, January 3 in the Golden Living Center – Oak Hill, Middleboro, following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Theresa D. (Gaucher) Dowty. He was born 87 years ago in Fall River, the son of the late William and Edith (Cottam) Dowty. He was educated in Fall River and had been a Taunton resident for 60 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a manager for the Harodite Finishing Company in North Dighton for 25 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served aboard the USS Renshaw in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion and the David F. Adams Post # 611, Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He leaves: 1 daughter: Lynn Auger and her husband, Rod of Taunton; 1 grandson: John Faria of Lakeville; 2 great grandchildren: Jillian and Jaden Faria both of Dighton, 1 niece and 2 nephews. He was predeceased by his 2 sisters. Funeral services will begin at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Monday, January 7 at 12:15 P.M. The Funeral Procession will begin at 12:30 P.M., followed by a Graveside Service in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:45 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
